To ask how does iCloud work

Sorry but I've asked for advice in the geek section already.

I've turned on photos to automatically saved to iCloud but how do I view them and put them back into photos to print?

Sorry I'm daft I haven't a clue.

What else can I save on iCloud to free up space?

Thank you x

I’m gonna post on this and bump it up in the hope of getting a response too. I’m being a bit dim about the whole iCloud thing:
All my photos automatically get saved to iCloud- if I delete them from the device, do they still stay on icloud forever and ever? Often I delete silly photos that people send, pics of other people’s kids/random stuff etc. But are all these pics still stored on the iCloud? I currently have 8000 photos on my phone and don’t want to delete them until I’m sure. Sorry I know I sound really dumb here... TIA

I'll bump too, sorry to be no help.

I paid for icloud but I have zero idea how to access anything.

Where are you wanting to view them? If it’s on a PC you can sign in to iCloud.com and view/download them there.

RaspberryRuffless · 26/03/2018 12:49

cockneylass if you have iCloud Photo Library turned on (and I’d check settings to double check!) then any photos you delete from device should also delete from iCloud.

cockneylass · 26/03/2018 13:11

Ok thanks. So I Guess that’s what I wanted to know- if I start deleting photos from my phone, they will be gone forever. For some reason I thought photos on the cloud stayed on the cloud. Or am I getting confused eogh Google photos

RaspberryRuffless · 26/03/2018 13:44

I think iCloud is mostly a syncing service rather than photo storage. So for example all my photos I take on my phone, also show up on my iPad. If I delete from phone, it deletes from iPad (and would also delete from iCloud).

For backing up photos, I use Dropbox.

Oh sugar, I messed up then. I thought iCloud stored stuff.

cockneylass · 27/03/2018 14:37

Thanks all. My question was answered.

This just reminded me of my Dad. He was given free iCloud storage when he bought a kitchen appliance. The conversation went like this.

Dad: I don’t want it, take it off
Assistant: but it is free
Dad: I don’t care I don’t want it
Assistant: but it is free we can’t take it off
Dad: well I will take it then, can you put it in a bag
Assistant: it’s not an actual object
Dad: ok so what is it then?
Assistant: Ermmmm it’s a storage device
Dad: I use SD cards can I have one of those instead
Assistant: it’s not the same
Dad: ok so, it’s a free gift but you can’t actually give it to me, it’s for storage but not like an SD card - so what actually is it and why would I want it?
Assistant: I will take it off for you sir.
