‘Round’ and short hair

Urgh.... I need to lose weight (about 1/2 stone gone and 4 to go) but I am in desperate need of a haircut too. I have a chin length bob and want to go short...

However, I searched for pixie cuts on a round face and was surprised to discover it’s a bit of a contentious issue... is it really so bad? One woman had a hairdresser refuse to do it!

I have fine, thin hair too hence wanting to go shorter rather than grow it.

AIBU unreasonable to want short hair whilst overweight and has anyone got any tips to pulling it off??

Whose hair is it?

MyRelationshipIsWeird · 01/03/2018 22:35

One woman had a hairdresser refuse to do it! blimey! She needs a different hairdresser Grin I know they are supposed to know what suits you etc but that should be more about what kind of short cut would work with your hair type, not that your face is too round to go short.

I actually think short hair suits round faces more as you can get some lift at the top when it's short to lengthen out your face shape. Most people with long hair end up putting it in a ponytail half the time anyway, which leaves a lot less visible hair around the face than a short cut.

I say go for it although I may be biased, as I have short hair and a reasonably round face

If you want your hair to accentuate your fatness then you will do for the pixie cut.

I don't think there's a hard and fast rule, OP. It depends on your face shape more than your weight, and also the shape of the cut. Have you tried looking online for images of the cut you have in mind, and comparing the shape of the model's face to your own?

hula008 · 01/03/2018 22:40

It will only grow back if you don’t like it! Grin

I’ve had a pixie cut and am quite fat. It was one of my more popular styles - I have thicker hair. It takes some styling as it’s a short cut.

NotUmbongoUnchained · 01/03/2018 22:42

I’m not overweight but I have a round face. Short hair looked awful on me. Made me look bigger than I am and made my face look huge.

Sparrowlegs248 · 01/03/2018 22:42

I wouldn't personally. I had short hair a few years ago, it did look really nice. I'd like it again but am about 3 stone fatter and it just wouldn't look good on me

thefutureisours · 01/03/2018 22:43

I am very overweight at the moment and my hair is ultra short. I have fine hair that does nothing and it suits me much better short!

Yes - I have some very strange searches in my history now... my face is more oval than round but chubby but when I put that in the women all had thin faces or they were very overweight whereas I am somewhere in between....

It depends on your style. I always thought Kelly Osbourne rocked the pixie cut, despite having a round face.

If you want short then a textured bob might work better.

Lostfairydust · 01/03/2018 22:48

Ding dong

I don’t really have a style - I need a life overhaul!! But Kelly Osborne I can look up!! Thanks

I do think it's harder to pull off if you're bigger, I also think it can be very ageing. It was on me at least. Some faces are very beautiful and suit it, irrelevant of size, but others it just draws attention to any facial chubbiness and just makes you look like you've got a very small head on a large body going on.

Sure it grows back. But let's be honest it ain't fast.

User5trillion · 01/03/2018 22:49

I have a,round face and short hair, I love it, couldn't give a damn if anyone else thinks it makes me look fat. So much better than my boring bob. My hair is fine.

ScreamingValenta · 01/03/2018 22:49

Have you tried something like this:

www.lorealprofessionnel.co.uk/hair-looks/style-my-hair

You can upload your photo and see how you look with different styles. I'm sure there must be loads of similar apps - that was just the first one that came up in a search.

Lostfairydust · 01/03/2018 23:09

Valenta

Just had a right giggle with that app but it didn’t have a decent pixie cut... I think I’m going to have to put my trust in a hairdresser....

If not a pixie cut I’m thinking of asymmetrical bob, much shorter than I have and short at the back but with length round the face to soften it

The one you've pictured looks as though it would suit a fuller face as there's lots of volume on the top to balance you - you probably want to avoid anything very cropped as this could make your head look smaller. A work colleague of mine has a similar cut to the pic, though with dark hair, and I would estimate she is size 18-20, apple figure; and the cut works well on her - she has had it for several years. The longer front strands look elfin on a rounded face.

greengrass1234 · 01/03/2018 23:36

Of course you can get whatever you like but I don't think very short cuts look good unless you are slim, attractive and have great style

VladmirsPoutine · 01/03/2018 23:38

To be honest it depends what kind of person you are and what you like.

It's your hair and all other things permitting e.g.your work regulations then crack on.

Is the worry about your weight or cutting the hair? Hair can grow back and weight can be lost so in the meantime just crack on Wine

Lostfairydust · 01/03/2018 23:55

Vladmirs

I think the weight is the biggest issue but that is slowly going. My hair could wait but i’m so fed up with lank, flyaway locks that is making me feel really old.... it would boost my confidence no end.... well it will if I don’t look like an egg with a feather stuck on the top

OP posts:
Suburbanfocks · 02/03/2018 00:01

I don't think it has much to do with weight. Some people will suit short hair and others really, really won't. I think it's more to do with facial bone structure and whether you've got a good jawline. I'm a size 8-10 and a crop made my face look like the moon, zoomed in.

ScreamingValenta · 02/03/2018 00:01

Go for it, OP - it will motivate you in your weightloss. Book a date for the hair cut and imagine yourself appearing to the world the next day with a new image, which will be accentuated by losing weight. Focus on the idea of surprising people with how different you suddenly look, and keep this in mind if you are tempted to eat something you don't need.
