Rocking toddler to sleep

DD is 19 months and has one nap a day for an hour or so. Thing is, I still rock her in my arms to get her to go down for her nap, it's the only thing that works besides the car. DM and MIL keep making comments about how ridiculous I am. But it works for us, she goes within 5 minutes in my arms but if I put her in her cot she just jumps about and attempts to climb out. At bed time.shes really good and passes out after a bottle of milk.

AIBU to tell them to keep their opinions to themselves, I feel ashamed and stupid when they have a dig Blush

Sounds fine to me. Enjoy the extra cuddles, she'll grow out of naps soon.

If it works it works! My 16 month old falls asleep on my knee for naps and bedtime. It doesn't bother me. When it stops working we will do something different. Like I did with DS who is now 7 and is a little dream when it comes to sleeping.

It might not suit everyone this method but if it works for you then they have no place to say anything.

I think the rocking is fine especially as she will eventually drop the nap anyway.

I would be concerned about having a bottle at 19 months as it is rally not good for teeth.

Just don’t talk to them about it, none of their business and if it works for you then who cares

Snakesandsnakes · 24/02/2018 11:34

If it works for you ignore them and get on with it. Your DD won’t have a nap forever and who cares if you rock her to sleep every single nap until she stops having them at 3 or whenever.
The only way I could get my DD1 to sleep in the day was in the buggy, so we went for a walk every day, rain or shine. I’m sure plenty of people thought I was stupid but she’s getting on for 3 and a half now so doesn’t sleep in the day and it all feels like such a non-issue! Incidentally she always went to bed at night with no problems too.
