To admire DD's creative solution to stopping screwdriver theft?

Background: DH has lots of tools in his man cave in the garage, including numerous screwdrivers. I own 2 screwdrivers, one flathead, one crosshead. I keep my screwdrivers in a kitchen drawer so that they are handy if there is a small job to be done, e.g. tightening a handle, unscrewing a battery compartment, changing a plug, etc. If it's cold or wet I don't want to have to go out to the garage to find a screwdriver. So far, so reasonable, right?

DH (although a lovely person) has a bad habit of nicking my screwdrivers when he also can't be bothered to go out to the garage. This would be fine but often they t hen seem to end up in the garage mixed up with his tools instead of back in the kit chen drawer. His excuse is that they're the same make as some of his tools so he just gets confused.

DD1 (13) has heard me grumbling about screwdriver theft several times. She has now "customised" them in such a way that she says DH will never again be able to confuse them with his tools. (See picture). In return I am giving both DDs full use of all my tools for any DIY jobs they have in mind... What do you think of her handiwork?

I would imagine there is a market for these!!

Fletchasaurus · 23/02/2018 16:44

Haha I love this! Kudos to your DD!

TheNoseyProject · 23/02/2018 16:45

Excellent problem solving!

Hookedoncatnip · 23/02/2018 16:52

Love it. I'd love those. Also it's just occurred to me that I could have my very own screwdrivers!

AmUsername · 23/02/2018 16:53

Why have I never thought to buy my own screwdrivers?!!

A revelation!

endofacentury · 23/02/2018 16:54

Brilliant !

LivingInMidnight · 23/02/2018 16:57

I bloody love washi tape. Thank DD for the inspiration!

swivelchair · 23/02/2018 17:00

My dad always used a tin of spraypaint randomly squirted over any new tools so he could tell which ones were his. Simple, but worked very well.

MilkTwoSugarsThanks · 23/02/2018 17:02

@Aprilshowerswontbelong - there is a market for them! I have two flowery sets Grin.

AuntFidgetWonkhamStrongNajork · 23/02/2018 17:06

I see your washi tape, and raise you my ball of string. Currently I have the following household items secured with said string to something solid and immovable: my toothpaste (to my sink), all the remote controls (to the coffee table), my nail scissors (to my dressing table), the back door keys (to the Welsh dresser.)

diddl · 23/02/2018 17:07

"In return I am giving both DDs full use of all my tools for any DIY jobs they have in mind... "

Asd long as they put them back in the proper place after...

Good idea.

I have a small set of my own in a leather case.

Thistlebelle · 23/02/2018 17:08

I have my own tools, I hide them because otherwise they migrate to the garage and get “mislaid”.

backformoreanditsmyfault · 23/02/2018 17:08

TheMad I like those. Your DD is clever. I reckon she could sell that sort of thing over the internet if she wanted some extra money.

2018SoFarSoGreat · 23/02/2018 17:12

Very smart cookie, your DD.

I have a small toolkit in a leather case. In fact - boasting here - I have 2. One for the office and one for home. I also have a lovely electric drill set. Turquoise. Don't use them often but when I need them they are there and they are mine

May have to copy the bedazzling though.

TellsEveryoneRealFacts · 23/02/2018 17:14

My OH wouldn't dare touch my tools.

kaitlinktm · 23/02/2018 17:16

I got this set of pink tools in the hope that my two (adult) DS and their friends would leave them be. Alas they have no sense of machismo and are quite happy to potter about on the drive with the tool kit in full view of passers by. Wink

Then they put them in among their own tools smeared with oil.

kaitlinktm · 23/02/2018 17:17

THIS tool kit

Top marks to your DD.
Sadly my DF are secure enough in their masculinity to nick my pink screwdrivers and scatter them to the 4 corners of the earth.

morningconstitutional2017 · 23/02/2018 17:19

They are absolutely superb! I'm sure this trick can apply to many other things if only I could think of them.

PickAChew · 23/02/2018 17:21

I have one of these. Life wouldn't be worth living for DH if I found anything missing. I bought it because I was sick of him moving stuff I like using to somewhere inaccessible or unfathomable.

TheMadGardener · 23/02/2018 17:25

kaitlinktm, love the pink tool kit.

DD1 is now wondering if she could start a stall in our local pannier market and make her fortune selling customised tools!

Both she and DD2 love buying different colours and designs of duck tape from Hobbycraft and sticking it on all sorts of things - bike handlebars, plant pots, USB sticks, water bottles...

Not as pretty but can I recommend this screwdriver for the kitchen drawer? It has different bits within the body of the screwdriver so can cope with most types of screw round the house and is a great all-in-one solution. DH knows life wouldn't be living if he didn't put it back where he found it!

Noodledoodledoo · 23/02/2018 17:38

We have an inside and outside tool box. Big not used items in the garage - more regularly used ones in a small box in the house. Also have a screwdriver in the battery box!

I am more likely to be the one using the tools though!

BrazzleDazzleDay · 23/02/2018 17:42

The toolbox and its contents belong to me dh is shit at diy and i too hate having to go out to the shed so keep my 3 fave screwdrivers in the kitchen drawer too.

Ravenesque · 23/02/2018 17:44

I have a multi top bits screwdriver which is pretty good. I have lost a lot of my wrenches, which is annoying, plus I need a new hammer. I dream of having a really good electric drill. I love drills.
