To be really sad that greyhound racing still goes on

Do people not realise the cruelty involved and that the dogs are just treated as cash machines and are sometimes tortured if they lose and abandoned or destroyed when finished with
Don’t understand how it still goes on ...

YANBU

YANBU. Vile "sport".

beepthemeep · 22/02/2018 16:19

YANBU at all.

The only thing that makes me happy is that there are lots of kind people who do adopt them and charities to raise awareness for them. A chap who lives near me has 3 greyhound rescues, and he puts them in brilliant coats when it's cold - skeleton ones in October, Santa ones at Christmas etc.

But those are the lucky dogs. Many aren't as lucky, esp when they are still racing.

See also the grand national - makes me cringe every year wondering how many beautiful brave horses are going to run their hearts out only to break a leg or their spine because it's still too fucking brutal.

Agreed on the Grand National too. I've had many friends (old friends) voice their apparently strong opinion on how cruel it is only to see them be lured in by the fancy outfits and champagne a year down the line, posing at the races.

A couple of years ago one of DHs siblings had a 'big birthday' and booked a table for everyone at a famous track.

I'd never been before because i know what goes on. (my father had been accepted for adopting an ex racing hound just before he passed away).

I went (to my shame really, to keep the peace) and had a big win. I put the whole lot in the 'save the grey hounds' bucket on the way out. FIL and MIL were very Hmm about it.

They keep talking about us all doing it again. I won't go again.

Totally agree about the grand national also
Can’t believe it when people I know bet on it

No, every office I've ever worked in has a grand national sweep. I refuse to take part.
