I’ve been working a long hours project (midnight finishes, weekend working) and it has all caught up with me and I feel run down, drained and came down with something that felt very

Unfinished sorry!

Very like flu over the weekend. Monday and Tuesday, I emailed in sick (as is customary where I work) saying I was hoping to be back next day. Problem is, I still feel wretched although a little better. I couldn’t battle public transport or sitting up on a proper chair/the office environment but feel lik I can try and get some work done from home in bed.

I feel guilty suggesting this though, like I’m not properly sick, and even more guilty that this is my third day off sick! I need to email now and not sure what to say. Can someone help?

Don't feel guilty! You're a human and humans sometimes get sick. A normal business understands and plans for that, or they'd be using machines instead of people. Take some rest and try not to feel guilty as in my experience feeling awful about being off makes it difficult to relax.

Thank you!

Could you help me compose an email to manager? My last couple said I was hoping to be back the next day which obviously hasn’t happened

Most places prefer you to be either at work as normal or off sick, and wouldn't be too happy with the compromise of being too sick to go in but then doing work from home. So I'd just be off properly.

'Hi. Unfortunately I had hoped to be better by today but that's not the case so I'm going to be off. I will email in the morning and let you know where things stand and if I'm able to return to work then.'

what do you want? if you are ill, you are ill. people do get ill and have to stay at home even though on MN (unless you are a Sahm who hasn't been at work a day in decades) people will tell you you are unreasonable - you are typing a message on here, so you are not on your death bed and should show up at work

hope you feel better soon!Flowers

If you want to show good will you could also add 'although I'm sick, if you need anything from me in an emergency I can do from my laptop please give me a ring and I'll try my best'

I would seriously judge any company that took you up on that while off sick but it looks good on you!

In future best not to be specific with when you'll be back as as you've found out you can't always tell!

if you're ill, you're ill - and going back prematurely might make you worse - and generally workplaces would rather you are better than come back too early and risk taking more time off.
Also if you're worried about your sickness record remember it's better to have 3 days off in a row as that's one 'incident', rather than 3 separate 1 day 'incidents'.
