The window above a door? I promise I have googled this! Are there special curtains or something to cover it?? Single most annoying feature of this rental property!!

It's called a fanlight. You'd probably have to have a curtain specially made or have one to cover the whole door.

Transom window?

You can get stick on blackout blinds - I used them in holiday lets when my children were babies.

Or chuck a stone through it so it gets boarded up!

We painted over ours - keeps the light out.

My children’s bedroom doors had this, very annoying as the landing light shone through them. I bought thick black card , cut to window size and blutacked it on.

You can get rather smart and attractive stickers with the house number on to cover them. There are loads of different kinds, but this is the sort of thing

You can get some sticky see through plastic stuff - probably the cheapest option.

You can get sticky backed plastic stuff for windows from wilko.

For a cheap, temporary cover you can dampen window and stick tinfoil on it. Instant blackout.

Thank you for the help everyone. We ended up getting this weird paper blind thing for £3 from Ikea, you cut it to size. Didn’t want to spend ££ as we’re moving soon.
