Coughed this morning and something went ping

Posting for traffic.
I have had a persistent but light cough after a respiratory infection from a few weeks back. I was on antibiotics for 3 days a few weeks back.
While I was sitting at work, I coughed and something pinged in the lower left of my back. It felt like it was in the back of my ribs or my diaphragm.
Since then, that side of my lower back has been more sore than it was before.
I wasn't able to get out of bed on my left hand side this morning and had to sit up and slide off the bed.
I can't sleep on my left hand side.
Any ideas what it might be?

Cracked rib? I had a horrendous persistent cough and coughed so hard I broke my rib Blush
It was utter agony
Plus I was about 30 weeks pregnant at the time and baby enjoying kicking it! Severe pain lasted around 5 days and got gradually better. Around four or five weeks later it was fine. Good luck!

Thanks for that.

Its not agony as such, but its very hard to cough and sneeze.
My left side does hurt a bit.
I can't bend over.

I still have an appetite though - typical.

I pulled a muscle in my back once from a really bad tckly cough . It hurt like hell

A guy at work with an awful cough recently popped 2 ribs out of place (but didn't crack of break them) after a particularly violent coughing session - had to get them massaged back in by a chiropractor. Might be worth checking out? Hope you feel better soon.

You have muscles in between the ribs called intercostal muscles. Persistent and strong coughing can cause you to pull one of these muscles. And it bloody hurts! Might be worth getting checked over in case it's something more serious.
