I’m taking her away for 4 days in May to Stockholm. It’s a birthday gift. Paying for the flight and the hotel, do you think I can say we are going half on food or she is paying for hers ? She is well off. We always said we needed to get away together but never booking anything. It’s booked :) we are going - but if you say I’m taking the mic expecting her to pay for food because it was my idea then no problem. Just asking :)

I don’t think that would be an issue at all. I’d be thrilled at being treated like this and wouldn’t think twice about paying for my food.

It would never occur to me not to pay for my own food.

Brilliant. So you wouldn’t be miffed. Thank you

If I had a friend who we spent that much on each others birthdays I would still offer something towards what you've paid, and if you didn't accept then I would expect to pay for one complete meal for us both as a thankyou (and wouldn't take no for an answer) and half of everything else

Wouldn't bother me if we paid for what we had, split every cost in half or roughly split it as I pay one night and friend the next, but I would definitely not be expecting you to pay for everything
