To ask for your help packing my case to go to an unknown destination?

DH has booked us a week away child free to celebrate a big occasion! He has only told me how long to take off work. Destination unknown!
No idea what to pack for an unknown climate! All i know it is not "hot hot".
Help!!!

You need to know how smart to go and whether it's city or beach at least.

Somewhere like marrakech maybe? I'd pack layers and throw in a pair of smart trainers and a few nice tops for evening.

I'd be torn between finding this exciting and irritating

If it's Scotland, I'd recommend foul weather gear! It's pissing down.

Layers for day time
Evening wear
Swim wear
Comfortable shoes

New undies for the nights!

Ask your DH for a sliding scale ex. cold, style, activity.

I. E. How cold on a scale of 1-10?
Clothing? Glam on a scale of 1-10?
Activity - chilling in the room or Downhill skiing?

Could you make 3 piles,
one stuff your take regardless (knickers, toothbrush cossie etc)
One for warm weather and one for cold?
Dh then packs what you need and hides the rest til you go.
You get to wear what you want without knowing what it'll be iyswim.

Yes, layers, something gorgeous fir the evening, some practical shoes.
I'd be explaining that if I didn't get it right (due to lack of guidance) I might have to go shopping while we are there!

Good point with the shopping while there. Im impressed he hasnt let anything slip as he usually does! He is so proud of himself he is slightly smug!

Sorry but I'd just find that incredibly irritating.

The idea is that you have a good time, yes? So how about he provides enough basic information (city, beach, rough temperature, will you be staying somewhere you can wash things, cocktails at the pool or all just yomping through the pitiless tundra?) so that you can pack appropriate things and not spend half the time thinking 'Oh if I'd known we'd be doing x I'd have packed my lovely xxx, it would have been perfect'. Etc.

Fine for most men with their trousers/t-shirt uniform. Not Fine for most women.

Oh that’s exciting , I would take jeans , shorts , bikini , warm jacket , denim jacket and some cardis and a few nice dresses . Trainers/ boots for flight , wedges , heels and flip flops . Covers all bases.

Oh you need more info than that.

Ask him for the average temperature day and night, the likelihood of rain, and whether you are likely to need clothes for:

1. an activity (including lots of walking)
2. relaxing
3. dressing up (as in evenings out, rather than fancy dress costumes, but you never know)

I'd need more info. I think it's daft to take clothes to allow for all situations because you won't have enough of anything.

I'd need temperature range and do I need smart, casual or both? Beach/pool? Practical clothes for activities?

I got more accurate infotmation so i could pack accordingly (though stil far too much) and I am currently travelling to the airport to go to..... Vegas!

Take nothing but your passport and a credit card, shop appropriately when you arrive

That is such a man thing to do. They just don't get that different environments require a completely different wardrobe.

The only variation in DP's packing is that in summer he takes shorts instead of some of his jeans and leaves his woolly hat and gloves at home. Mind you, he hates the heat and would never go somewhere really hot.

We surprised our kids with Disney but in order to help them pack I gave them a rough idea - mostly clothes for warm days, a hoodie/jumper or two, trainers, swimwear, etc. We figured that they'd travel in warmish clothes so we covered for it was cooler.

Alternatively, pack the wrong things and take a credit card to go shopping!!
