AIBU Cheap Disability Aids

Posting for traffic - and also want to ensure people know about this dodgy company. I bought something months ago and it's never arrived and dispite numerous emails and phone calls I'm getting nowhere. Had a look online and there are hundreds of reviews on different sites saying the same thing. It was even in Guardian newspaper www.google.co.uk/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/money/2016/nov/07/waiting-months-cheap-disability-aids

I think they hope you will just give up chasing and then keep the money. Apparently reviews on their site are from a French review company and are not real.

They have changed their name to Sensory Education. It just makes me so angry they are playing on parents emotions by selling toys etc to help children with disabilities. Just wondering if the power of mumsnet could help people scammed by this company.

We had issues with this company too. They didn't send half out order and what they did send was rubbish or incorrect! I can't understand how they are still up and running!

MammaTJ · 09/03/2018 22:58

As someone who is just beginning to accept I am disabled, I thank you for this warning! Very much appreciated OP!

Ellendegeneres · 09/03/2018 23:00

Same mamma
Awful that people are preying on the needs of the most vulnerable

SOP for looking for anything for DW (who has MS) is to avoid anything with the word "aid", "adaptation" or "disability" in the name. Seems to be an excused to add a zero to the price.

Scooter batteries, wheelchair tyres being an example.

Tarn31 · 12/12/2018 19:30

Placed an order on 24th November, NO contact, NO delivery, not answering emails and phone cant accept calls!!! I wrote on there facebook page and my comment was deleted and im now blocked from posting anything, i will be contacting trading standards and my bank. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!!!!

Curious2468 · 12/12/2018 19:52

I can’t believe they are still in business :( we never did get our money back (lost about £40). They are criminals really

Tarn31 · 12/12/2018 20:26

Its not just about the money (lost £35) its the fact they prey on the vulnerable! Its immoral 😢

SamE73 · 14/01/2019 11:05

Adding to this
Avoid this company at all cost
Rude ,poor communication ,do not deliver as promised

Jking838383 · 30/04/2019 22:32

Also having issues with this company feeling awful was for my son's birthday

CaraConcerned · 12/11/2019 19:15

Just bumping this as like a fool i ordered some items without checking reviews first. Looks like a legit company/ site but clearly I'm not going to receive what I ordered. I'll start a chargeback and cross my fingers...

When you email customer services you get a poorly written email saying to wait to hear from them and don't chase it up.it was for my son's birthday.

CaraConcerned · 12/11/2019 19:16

Also trading as Sensory Education ltd

CaraConcerned · 12/11/2019 19:22

Actually according to the site's ts & cs, you have to notify within 14 days if you cancel an order as "chargeback is not an acceptable way of canceling" (I paraphrase). www.cheapdisabilityaids.co.uk/terms.asp

LA115 · 12/11/2019 19:45

Thank you for the warning, I have looked at this site many times but not bought from them yet

FabbyChix · 12/11/2019 19:48

If you paid by debit card you can do a chargeback up if you spent less than £100 if more and funded by credit card you can ask them to do a chargeback

I think any company selling aids cheaply online is going to be good to be true. An elderly relative bought a hearing aid online because it was "much cheaper than Boots" and I ended up fishing a bit of it out of his ears with tweezers as it fell apart.

CaraConcerned · 12/11/2019 19:59

Yes, there's a Guardian article and loads of awful TrustPilot reviews!
Thanks Fabby, I'll get on that.

Shame because there's loads of good products on there.

CaraConcerned · 12/11/2019 20:03

It's not hearing aids, it's lots of sensory kids' stuff. Loads of items I've seen used at nursery, etc, and is one of the first results when you google some of the items I was looking for.
Otherwise it's Amazon - or they do list their competitors on their Ts & Cs - Sensory toy warehouse,Explore the senses,TFH and other specialist sensory toy retailers based in the UK

CaraConcerned · 17/12/2019 14:38

Just to update (and bump if anyone is thinking of ordering from here!)
I eventually got a partial refund but am trying to get a full refund. I paid via Klarna which may be able to help.

They didn't bother to reply to loads of my emails even to say a partial refund was on its way. I cancelled as per their Ts&Cs which state they will give a full refund including postage.

Please avoid them as I'm still out of pocket weeks later!

CaraConcerned · 17/12/2019 14:39

Oh and their small print says they will charge a £55 fee if you do a chargeback via your bank...

CaraConcerned · 08/04/2020 18:25

just bumping this thread for anyone thinking of using this website to buy toys for kids etc during lockdown.

Lizziesbusy · 08/04/2020 21:38

Thankyou PP.

For anyone else that is newly ‘disabled’, ‘less mobile’ or has ‘restricted mobility’, this link is very useful for finding out what is VAT exempt as it may help at some point in the future.
