Sunday 4th Feb : The seal on my washing machine split and then came right off. It’s a posh Miele, it was crazy expensive and DH picked it because apparently the warranty is the nuts. Fetid sock juice ran all over the futility room, and I had to use my mum’s washer. 3 kids, all with various additional needs, so this is a big deal.Angry

Went back to the shop we bought it from, they arranged a Miele engineer for Feb 6th so I cancelled all plans and then he rang to say he didn’t have a part, couldn’t get a part and someone would be in touch. Then got a call to say the earliest they could get to me was Feb 26thAngry

I said why can’t they send the part and I’d find someone local to fit it, But no we are not allowed to do that because it invalidates the warranty.Angry

So I’m stuck with an expensive, busted washer, I can’t physically get to the laundrette with all the kids, and I’m reduced to sending washing to my mothers. After a big rant they brought my engineer date back to Feb23rd, which still sucks.

What can I do???

Oh yeah, and as a “gesture of goodwill” they offered to pay for my Laundrette costs. Shock

Wait? Like anyone else has to

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 15/02/2018 13:21

Why on earth is this “sensitive”? Confused

RedHelenB · 15/02/2018 13:22

Use the kaunderette if they will.pay the costs

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 15/02/2018 13:23

and I’m reduced to sending washing to my mothers.

Reduced? Or very lucky to have a mother who can do your laundry for free?

LaundryMountain · 15/02/2018 13:28

So the service warranty is nonsense then? Excellent! Sad

abigailsnan · 15/02/2018 13:28

While I can see you are struggling with the build up of washing for your family at least you have the services of your mum to help you so think yourself lucky.People cope with far more serious problems than this,at least you know the job will be done.

LondonHereICome · 15/02/2018 13:29

Who knows? What does the warranty say?

LondonHereICome · 15/02/2018 13:30

And of course letting someone fit a part invalidates the warranty

They have to know it's fitted correctly!

reddingtn · 15/02/2018 13:31

If it's just the seal you can often replace it yourself. My dog liked to open the machine door and shred mine when we were out Hmm have a Google. It can be a bugger and took two of us but maybe better than waiting that long?

Omgineedanamechange · 15/02/2018 13:32

WTAF is “Sensitive” about a broken washer? is it a subject we should speak about in hushed tones perhaps, along with a furtive glance to ensure no one can overhear?

Whatshallidonowpeople · 15/02/2018 13:32

How can a washing machine be posh?

KinkyAfro · 15/02/2018 13:34

Why so many snarky replies?

LaundryMountain · 15/02/2018 13:34

Sorry, I was being tongue in cheek with the “sensitive” bit but my icon failed!

OP posts:
LaundryMountain · 15/02/2018 13:35

I’d replace the seal but it invalidates the rest of the warranty AND Miele haven’t got any anyway.

Why so many snarky replies?

Thread title and opening post. HTH.

MorningsEleven · 15/02/2018 13:36

If they're offering to pay why not use a laundering service that collects?

millymae · 15/02/2018 13:36

I feel your pain OP - been there and got the tee shirt although my problem was with Hoover so perhaps no surprise. They told me they didn't keep parts such as the one my machine needed in stock and had to wait for it to come in from somewhere abroad.

I would have expected better from Miele tbh and don't think you are being at all unreasonable even with their offer to pay laundrette costs.

No organisation should be so inefficient that you have to wait so long for a part - it's not even as though as seal is a particularly obscure part.

LondonHereICome · 15/02/2018 13:36

Yes and they insist on their own workmen for a reason, too many botch diy'ers out there

Mess it up and then blame the machine for itHmm

Chopchopbusybusy · 15/02/2018 13:37

I don’t know why you’re getting such shitty replies either.
Do you have a laundrette nearby ish who do service washes? If they are prepared to pay laundry costs then I’d do that. Just make sure they do t have a cap on how much they will pay out.

AttilaTheMeerkat · 15/02/2018 13:55

LM

I feel your pain also with regards to Miele.

How long have you had the machine?

Unfortunately Miele have a shortage of engineers so a wait like this is not unheard of (and I thought upon initial reading that they were never going to come out to you that quickly). I have also had to wait a week plus for the engineer to make an appearance before now.

elliejjtiny · 15/02/2018 14:01

I feel your pain. My washing machine broke down 10 days ago and it's just been fixed. I have 5 DC with additional needs and like you I can't get to the launderette with them. If I had the space I would get another washing machine so I always had one as a back up. No advice but you have every sympathy from me.
