To change artist without notice.

Tattoo artist has been at a convention for 2 weeks abroad.

In the middle of week one I sent her an email about booking a session when she arrived back in the UK. No response.

Middle of week 2 I sent a Facebook message saying I'd sent an email, wasn't sure if she got it, copied email over.

At the end of week 2 she posted on her Instagram that she was flying home that weekend and would respond to emails once home.

We're now halfway through week 3 and I've not had one acknowledgement or response. So am I being unreasonable to be bored of waiting, to contact another artist (only text so didn't NEED her specifically to do it) and to tell her to forget about it?

Do you have a contract or is this just a casual enquiry?

You’re not obliged to use this artist just because you have contacted her. You can change artist for any reason.

I wouldn’t even bother texting to tell her to forget it. Just make other arrangements And if she does get in touch you can say you don’t need her services.

Sounds like she's just busy

I think you're being unfair. You know she's been away and yet you seem to think you're entitled to an instant response. Go to someone else if you like but tbh it comes across that the artist will be dodging a bullet as you sound difficult.

If she's already started your tattoo and you want it finished then I think going elsewhere is pretty poor form, and from what I understand a lot of artists will refuse to finish work that someone else has started for this reason.

If she hasn't actually done anything yet, then do what you want.

Princeofwales I'm not expect an instant reply, it's been 5 days of her back in the UK and she's been at work (her Instagram shows it) so just thought she'd have got to my email and just an acknowledgement saying she's busy and would want me to phone or something like that. I didn't think a bit of customer service was me bu :/

So you’re not booked in yet, she hasn’t designed anything for you, and you’re not particularly bothered about having a tattoo specifically from her anyway?

The question doesn’t even really need to be asked. You can do whatever you want.

Good tattoo artists book up months in advance though, so I imagine she'd be busy working on people who booked in a while ago. Have you tried contacting her at the studio she works at rather than personally? If she's well known in the field I'd guess she has multiple people emailing or messaging her privately and she may not respond to all of them. If you like her work, I would say not give up on her as a good artist is hard to find.

I do agree a response would be good after all this time though.

No offence but almost all tattooists turn down writing as it's not a big earner or creatively interesting. They also turn down tribal as it's boring as fuck and tends not to be well looked after. Bit bloody rude of her not to reply to you but there are some humongous egos in the tattoo industry.

This artist could least of said if she wasn't interested in doing it though!! I've contacted another who's happy to do it so all is good :)
