God - dh is away for 3 weeks - hooray ! And they both keep ringing me to see if I am "COPING" !!!

It's not as if he does anything when he is here anyway !!

What sort of incompetent prat do they think I am ?????

They don't give me a second thought the rest of the time - now they are offering to come and HELP me !!!!

ARGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH !!!

Although tempting to say "do you not realise he doesn't do an effing thing when he is here?" why not seize this opportunity to exploit your family? If they are offering to help - grab it with both hands and send the kid(s) off to the playground on an hourly basis!

scatterbrain · 01/05/2007 20:31

Too boring for even one tiny response eh ???

How often is "they keep ringing"? I'd say people are just concerned about you, and I think its quite nice (although I completely understand that it would get right on my t**s if it went on too long.......)
Maybe you should stop answering the phone.....?

scatterbrain · 01/05/2007 20:33

Well yes - it would be tempting - but dd at school all day and me at work - and when they do come they mistake me for a hotel - so when they say "to help" - they really mean "for a holiday !"

I need none of their help !!

Let them hepl, don't be a martyr!

scatterbrain · 01/05/2007 20:34

Ringing every evening to see if I have "managed today !" - I know I should be glad - but it is just making me they ring about once a week usually and never show much interest !!

They are spoiling my evenings !!

In that case: call screen. You don't need it, it's just making them feel better. As you are "extra" busy just now surely you can be forgiven for not answering the phone ...

DeviousDaffodil · 01/05/2007 20:35

In that case get call minder and don't answer the phone. Or invite yourself round there for tea

saltire · 01/05/2007 20:35

scatter, when DH was away last year for four months my mum started ringing every day "just to see how you are". After 12 weeks I stopped answering the phone

saltire · 01/05/2007 20:36

And the IL's never rang once. Well that's not true, step MIL rang occasionally to boast about SIL, and MIL rang whenever i forgot a birthday

scatterbrain · 01/05/2007 20:36

No no no - I have done without their help for 6.5 yrs - that's just the thing - they have shown hardly any interset in me -all through my PND there was no help - now I am back at full strength, back at work and me and dd getting on just fine - suddenly they want in !!!

Too little too late !!!

I tried ignoring phone - they just keep ringing back time and time again !

Irritating isn't it saltire ???

I feel like they think I cannot LIVE without my big strong DH to look after me !!! So not true !! I am loving it !!!

Then can I introduce you to surely one of the most excellent features of any modern phone: night mode (as Panasonic call it) or Do Not Disturb (as Philips call it). This way, you can decide 'for whom the bell rings' and for whom it doesn't so you don't need to worry about them disturbing your chilling time. You'll be able to tell they've phoned 20 times when you look at the phone but at least it won't disturb you at the time.

DeviousDaffodil · 01/05/2007 20:41

Iwant one!!!

scatterbrain · 01/05/2007 20:41

Hmmmm - my phones don't have that feature - they are only a year old and cost a fortune - I had better not upgrade whilst he is away !

Anyway - it wouldn't surprise me if they sent the police round if I didn't answer !! Neither set understand that it is sometimes not a good time to talk !!

Oh well - it is only 3 weeks I guess !
