What do you do when you touch your contactless travel card/bank card on the reader and the light turns red for an unknown reason?
I wait for the 5-10secs it takes to turn orange again before touching again - and it always works.

Well this morning the woman following me started yelling at me "what are you going to do? Just stand there?"
I answered "yes, I am, what exactly where you going to do? Wait for the light to turn orange exactly as I am doing??"

But am I missing something and WIBU?

I wanted to write a book called the Tube Commandments. Thou shalt not get on the tube before I've fucking got off and so on.

lookingforthecorkscrew · 13/02/2018 10:39

Ive never had anyone have a go at me when that happens but I've had some aggressive intakes of breath or tutting. I just ignore them. I go into a semi meditative state when travelling on the underground.

What grinds my gears more than ANYTHING is idiots pooling at the entrance to the platform/bottom of stairs. Because what idiot doesn't think 'This is a high frequency walkway, we ought to move along a bit'

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 13/02/2018 12:04

Thou shall keep to the bloody left at all times.

That would be my second commandment.,

Urubu · 13/02/2018 12:41

I would try again but wouldn't wait 5-10 seconds that's ages during the rush hour
TBH 5-10sec is how long it felt, might have been less than 5, basically the amount of time it took for the red light to switch to orange.
I am not sure I stepped back enough (will keep it in mind!), BUT if that was what the woman was unhappy about she would have said so surely.

*Thou shall keep to the bloody left at all times.

That would be my second commandment.,*

Except on the escalator, where thou shalt keep to the bloody right.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 13/02/2018 12:47

Yes, but you walk on the left.
So commandement ought to be "walk on the bloody left". Sorry bout that.

EmpressOfJurisfiction · 13/02/2018 12:51

The people who stand on the left on the escalator are the most annoying of all (disclaimer - unless they're a guide dog).

But I'm nearly as irritated by the people who walk down so very, very slowly that they might as well just be on the right.

Aridane · 13/02/2018 12:53

When I get off at my home tube station, the crowd outside let the first few people off and then push in at the sides of the door. I exit with my elbows extended to minimise painful jostling for me

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 13/02/2018 12:54

Oh yes.

I seem to be physically unable to stand still on the escalators.
haven't hurt any guide dogs in doing so

Etiquette would say you should have a second go, but 5-10 seconds? Too long imo when people are waiting. Are you sure the barriers were working correctly? Normally only a second or two is needed
