Too Late for Power Tools?

So someone has turned up on our street with a mini digger and a big arse drill. They've started drilling the pavement or road now! It's so loud we can't hear our TV over the noise!

Surely it's too late with children in bed for someone to start this sort of work with this sort of noise?

If so, almost certainly emergency gas/water/electrical works.

I've just spoken to a neightbour. It's water works to do with another street. But they've been here all weekend and all day today without actually doing anything. Starting this time of night is ridiculous.

Believe me they want to be there less than you want them there.

Were you informed of the works? You should have had a letter through the door.

Nope no notice what so ever, not even a knock out of courtesy. They get paid more for doing it this time at night so I doubt it!

If it's planned works with road space booking taking place after 8pm then you should have received notification. Unless you are on a private road?

Nope not a private road! They've just started drilling again! Is there a time they have to stop?

It's worth going and speaking to them to ask which company they're from. It's ridiculous to be doing it at this time of night.

I don't think they would be drilling at this time of night if it wasn't absolutely necessary and it could possibly have been a very sudden problem therefor wouldn't have had time to give you notice!!

They're from the water company! Fucking ridiculous! If they drill again I'll go and sit in the way until they leave!

This happened to me recently. Myself and at least several other people called the water board about an issue in the morning. They spent the whole day in the street. Turned the water off at 12 (no warning or knocking on doors, not a huge street either) started digging the road up between 6 and 7pm. Finished around midnight. Baffled me.
