Very paranoid but what if...?

Had carpet fitters round yesterday, 3 men to fit one room. They explained this by saying they'd been to a massive job before ours, but I asked one of them later on "you've had a big job on this morning then?" And he said not really.

After they'd finished one of them was very chatty with me while the other two made their way downstairs. When I came downstairs to pay and see them out, the other two were by the door. It wasn't until they'd gone that I started to get worried that maybe I'd been kept talking so the other two could have a look around or at our alarm system. Now worrying myself silly that we might get burgled as a result.

Please tell me I'm being unreasonable and unnecessarily paranoid. Is this morning me of the ways burglars do it?

Sound paranoid. Where on earth did you hire them from? I'm guessing online or something and not a reputable company?

noodleeoodledoodles · 12/02/2018 18:55

We bought from a reputable company but the fitters are a separate outfit arranged by that company. Glad you think I'm just being paranoid though.

Well if it's arranged by the company then I doubt it's dodgy.

They’re carpet fitters, not burglars. What would they have ‘cased’ anyway?

Onceuponatimethen · 12/02/2018 19:11

I had a similar creepy feeling about some plumbers we had once. Nothing happened so just paranoia!

InsomniacAnonymous · 12/02/2018 19:15

Looking at your alarm system won't disable it or tell them the code anyway. Presumably you've checked that there's nothing missing.

AgentProvocateur · 12/02/2018 19:17

You’re asking on the wrong forum! Lots of people here wouldn’t have let the carpet fitters in in the first place Wink

MissionItsPossible · 12/02/2018 19:20

I would personally have the exact same thoughts as you but I agree with others it's just paranoia.

noodleeoodledoodles · 12/02/2018 19:29

Phew. Thanks all, I just needed to hear that really. It's not like we've got oodles of valuables around. Anxiety was overruling rationalism.

I felt that way a couple of months ago when we had a small freezer delivered. One of the guys asked to use the loo. It was fine, he was fine, I just felt irrationally weird about it.
