In thinking that Vodafone might be lying?

I’m going to France on Monday and I’m paranoid that my phone won’t work. Customer services assure me it will automatically switch like it used to years ago on trips. Last time I went in 2016, it didn’t work. Now I’m told it will. Is that because there are no roaming charges now?

Not sure why it wouldn't. I've been a
Vodafone customer for years and never had any problems in any country including France...

I’ve never known Vodafone to be reliable about anything so good luck.

Gide · 10/02/2018 22:52

Hmm, might ring them again tomorrow. I had an agent online who kept asking the same questions, so I wrote ‘Are you a robot?’ His response was ‘I am just a bot in trying. Let me find you an agent.’ Bonkers!

When I used to go abroad, the phone would automatically swap to whatever provider. It didn’t last time I was there, I hadn’t checked with Vodafone.

I’m on Vodafone and it’s always switched over automatically. Only downside when I went last to Asia last year was Vodafone don’t offer data roaming now to some remote areas, so I had to get a local SIM card. They won’t apply to France though

BrieAndChilli · 10/02/2018 22:54

I went to France last June and it automatically switched over.

Glumglowworm · 10/02/2018 22:55

In my experience Vodafone do lie, and speaking to a different person is no guarantee they won’t just tell the same lie to get rid of you

Unfortunately I can’t help you with the roaming question though, not been out of the uk for several years and I know there’s been changes to rules about roaming since my last foreign trip

Killerqueen2244 · 10/02/2018 22:59

Just come back from France and it went to a different carrier automatically but they text to say roaming was free in the country. I will be scrutinising my bill at the end of the month!

YABU - just typing in "Vodafone, roaming, EU" brought up Vodafone's Global Roaming Info page. This explains all the details of their EU roaming plan.

You haven't travelled abroad in 2 years yet your first instinct is to assume that the support service is lying when they tell you how their system works.

When I go abroad my carrier just tells me to turn the phone off and on again once I have landed and it will automatically connect to the local network. If it's an EU country then I will also automatically get the "Welcome to ! Your plan will work the same as at home as there are no longer roaming charges. If you go outside your plan then calls will be charged at Xp, Texts at Yp and Data at £Z per MB! Any further questions, go to our website for fiull details."

HateTheDF · 10/02/2018 23:18

My DP is with Vodafone and his has always automatically worked.

idontlikealdi · 10/02/2018 23:21

My phone switches to France when I'm in broadstairs soul sure it will be fine.

malmi · 10/02/2018 23:32

Make sure you haven't got roaming or data roaming disabled on your phone.

Well we’re talking about Vodafone, so, yeah, pretty much. Never met a more useless shower of shit. They have caused both my husband and me months of infuriating hassle. I don’t think we’re alone either.

Heratnumber7 · 10/02/2018 23:50

Have you checked you haven't switched off roaming in the settings?

Fruitbat1980 · 11/02/2018 00:02

Vodafone are fuckers. You’ll be fine till you’ve spent x amount on calls then they’ll cut you off till you make a prepayment. Madness. They’ve done this to me about 5 times I always vow to leave and end up staying as they drop prices. You’ll be fine as long as you don’t spend too much. Despite me paying DD. Every month for 10 years plus they put a block on In fat flung countries (I travel for work a lot) even when I’ve told them in advance. Really shit customer service.

wobytide · 11/02/2018 00:07

Far flung countries ---- France.........

York27 · 12/02/2018 15:43

I’ve heard of someone I know having months of hassle with them - therefore I wouldn’t ever go with them

toolonglurking · 12/02/2018 16:45

I've been with Vodafone for over 15 years and they have always been fine for me. Your phone should automatically connect to the local network, if it doesn't then its most likely a settings issue on your phone.

Are you usually this anxious?
