We've got a wedding later this year. We're ok for money - but can't afford a holiday abroad this year and wedding will cost us about £600 once gifts/clothes etc taken into account. We know the bride much better. I'm invited to hen (one night away in city 1hr train journey away- cost c £200). He's invited to stag (weekend abroad - cost c £700). He hardly knows groom, but knows one of other blokes well - who is a total arse. So aibu to be pissed off that he's going?? He said he didn't really want to go - but felt he had to say yes. I am really piss ed off with him.

It depends. Whose money is paying for the do's? You pay each your own way or it comes out of the joint pot?

Are you going to the hen do?

Lifeisabeach09 · 10/02/2018 20:20

Sounds like he wants to go. As long as it is not leaving you short.
Be sure you book a weekend away for yourself too.

You guys are spending £1500 on someone else's wedding?

You must be minted...

Let him crack on. You're going on the hen do. Fair's fair.

£700 of that it for the stag do! And will leave us short. I'm not 100% decided on hen do.

We had a similar situation last year. Weekend away for the wedding cost around £500. Hen party in Barcelona was about £750. My DH was invited to the stag party abroad which would have been another £750. We are both friends with the bride and groom but it was more my side than his so he agreed not to go.

Ginmakesitallok · 10/02/2018 20:46

Think I'll say no to hen do - bride is more his side than mine.

I think I'd suggest that be neither of you go to the hen or stag dos. And used the money saved for a nice weekend away with the two of you.

£600 is more that enough to spend on a wedding (that must be accommodation surely? Not £600 just on clothes and a gift? Shock)
