Save the date card for a kids party

DC 5 reception came home with a save the date card for a kids birthday party as it’s in a month or so time Is that a thing now?
Aibu to think kids parties are a bit out of hand?

I mean- why not just send the invite?

Not a bad idea... perhaps it's not all finalised yet but they want to get it early to avoid a clash...it's a nightmare if another child in the class has a party on the same day.

Although my DD once came home from nursery with a party invitation...the party was three months away! I was expecting something spectacular but it was the worst, most badly organised kids party I'd ever been to!
