When one incident ruins something which should be fun for all

A few years ago DC's school threw a disco, a kid got out of school when they shouldn't of (they were fine after btw) and since then the school doesn't do discos. Clearly the kid shouldn't have been able to waltz out of school, but feel sorry that all the other children now don't get to experience a school disco. That's the sort of thing I mean. Do you have any similar experiences?

I always feel like that when flying and you are not allowed any liquids, in case you intend to blow up the plane, with your juice bottle. I understand where it's coming from but I would happily get this reversed again.
