To think DP is a dick with all his ‘connections ‘

LovingMyDarkAndStormy · 08/02/2018 20:56

Been with DP for a few years. He’s great but a class A dick.

He ‘knows’ a lot of people - famous people. It’s got to the point that literally every programme we watch - he knows someone connected with it.

It’s either an actor who is one of his DCs father/mother.
His old road he lived in is featured in the film/programme
He bumped into them the other day
He went to the premiere off ..

I’m a bumpkin

I only ever served Maggie Philbin a bra when I worked as a Saturday girl in M & S

He’s a bore

& he corrects me with my pronunciation

Today I said ‘pale’ wrong (he asked me how it’s spelt)

&

To top it off I have to meet his family (first time - they live overseas) over the weekend.

They are famous. I’m the brassy, inappropriately dressed bumpkin Grin

They might be famous, but they didn't do a very good job of bringing up their son to be polite, kind and considerate, since he thinks it's alright to correct and belittle you.

Sounds as though he is very insecure, and has to boost his ego by all the references to "famous" Z listers that he knows, and by keeping you in your place.

LEMtheoriginal · 08/02/2018 21:11

He sounds like a twat. Does he have ANY good points?

norfolkenclue · 08/02/2018 21:12

I'm wondering how 'pale' could be said any other way than 'pale' (rhyming with whale or sail).

And yes, he's a bit of a dick really isn't he??

PavlovaPrincess · 08/02/2018 21:13

His family are famous? His entire family? Is he one of the Kardashians?

Or are you Meghan Markle?

ZBIsabella · 08/02/2018 21:14

It does not sounds as if you love him and I think he hasn't married you and it sounds as if he is pretty nasty to you. How awful.

He can't be very upmarket if he thinks people like actors are something to show off about knowing!

Does he feel insecure? Is he not British - you say his family lives abroad.

"what first attracted you to the millionaire Paul Daniels........."

upsideup · 08/02/2018 21:15

I dont understand why he is a dick for having connections? I'm sure you've told him aabout serving Maggie Philbin like you told us so why would it be so dickish of him to tell him about who hes met?

allinclusive · 08/02/2018 21:15

I think he's gutted because he's not famous. I couldn't grit my teeth at those comments. I would've called him something by now.

Maybe the parents are lurvely mwah mwah.

Bloomed · 08/02/2018 21:15

Sounds like he is desperate to impress/intimidate you?

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 08/02/2018 21:16

He sounds like a twat.

How does he say 'pale'? Because really the only way you can say it is so it rhymes with whale.

NewYearNewMe18 · 08/02/2018 21:16

Why are you with him? you clearly don't respect or like him much.

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 08/02/2018 21:16

In what ways is he great? He sounds like a complete bore.

mumonashoestring · 08/02/2018 21:18

Out of curiosity, how do you respond when he makes these little pronouncements? Do you feel obliged to sound approving and impressed?

Because quite honestly I think I'd try "And?"

I mean what point is he trying to make? I live in Oxford, I've spent episodes of Lewis playing 'spot the college' with DH but quite honestly no one else would give a shit that I recognised bits of the set. He sounds a bit obnoxious.

LloydColeandtheCoconuts · 08/02/2018 21:19

Dress like a bumpkin. Not sure of the outfit but I imagine denim dungarees, a check shirt, a straw hat and customary toothpick hanging out of your mouth Grin

MyBrilliantDisguise · 08/02/2018 21:19

He's been seeing you for years yet you haven't met his parents? Doesn't he earn enough to take you there? Don't they like him enough to make the effort?

LovingMyDarkAndStormy · 08/02/2018 21:21

He is very British

I don’t think I do love him & this is concentrating my mind.
Today when we went shopping he asked if I always had such difficulty deciding on dinner - I said no because I ate ‘normal ‘ dinners I.e sausage & mash . He wants some dinner from a recipe book EVERY night. ( sorry rubbish example of how he is)

He is very good & kind to me but I’m sick of feeling like a little person

timeforabrewnow · 08/02/2018 21:23

I'm guessing he's Australian and his Mum and Dad have both been actors in Neighbours or Home and Away??

LovingMyDarkAndStormy · 08/02/2018 21:23

No I definitely don’t look impressed
I don’t respond at all

I am thinking - hot pants, see through top with mis coloured bra underneath & some stripper heels.

timeforabrewnow · 08/02/2018 21:24

Whoops - sorry - crossed posts.

Topseyt · 08/02/2018 21:25

He sounds like an arse to me. A boring one too.

MoeSzyslaksTwinSister · 08/02/2018 21:26

I'm guessing this is a wind up thread?

Seafoodeatit · 08/02/2018 21:26

Why are you with him? you say you don't love him and he doesn't seem to make you feel very good about yourself, what's in this relationship for you?

BitOfFun · 08/02/2018 21:27

That would just be peculiar. Much like this thread.

expatinscotland · 08/02/2018 21:27

He is very good & kind to me but I’m sick of feeling like a little person

No, he's not. He belittles you, he corrects you, he negs you, he's rude to you, he's a bore, an obnoxious twat. Unless your standards are so low Frodo Baggins could limbo under them, there's nothing kind or good about a person who behaves like this Hmm.
