Mirena coil causing stench/lacerations?

Mirena was fitted 2.5 years ago. The doctor had to discard the first one she tried to get in, funny angle/small womb. It’s improved the period pain beyond measure. However, DH says the strings have lacerated the head of his penis (sorry, tmi, I know) and that every time we have sex, he then stinks like he has a bacterial infection. He needs to get checked out, as do I. Has anyone had similar?

I’m loathe to get it out, as getting it in was bloody horrible, but I can sometimes-rarely-feel it like it’s poking in. If it needs to come out, so be it, my DH is now reluctant to have sex. :(

If your strings are cut too short they can tear a mans penis. Have you had discharge that's smelling or pain.

Have you noticed any sort of fishy odour yourself? I had the copper coil for a couple of years and it caused bacterial vaginosis in me.
My doc at the time Was adamant that it couldn’t be the coil, but it went as soon as I had it removed and has never returned!

No experience of lacerations though - can they trim the wires shorter?

Please get yourself to the GP as soon as you can. I have a copper coil horror story which I won't go into here but you absolutely must rule out PID.

If you do need a new coil then I'm pretty sure that there are times of the month when this is said to be easier - something to do with where the cervix is lying, I think.

PID?! Omg, I really hope not! I’ll see if I can pop into the clinic this weekend.
