I live in a upstairs flat.
I have my own front door and 8 stairs to my hall/living room etc.
I rang Argos before I ordered and they said it would be fine as long as staircase wasn’t narrow ( it’s not)
They arrived and refused to take it upstairs.
They said we can only leave it at front door.
I am single and family don’t live nearby.
I’ve text a few friends and responses like “don’t know what you can do” so no offer to help.
Argos just took it away as I couldn’t carry it upstairs myself.
Not sure what I’m asking for ..I’m just a bit sad I’ve got nobody to ask for a hand.

Order from a local company who will deliver upstairs - Euronics perhaps? Most will price match.

TheFishInThePot · 06/02/2018 17:59

That's very poor when you checked first. Have you tried complaining on their twitter page?

Blankuser1992 · 06/02/2018 18:00

Ehhhh?

No

Email them, send proof of hallway / stairs.

Describe the drivers and then write that you want a response due to being unable to do the work yourself.

Lazy drivers

Whatalife45 · 06/02/2018 18:02

They’ve just told me on Twitter due to health and safety it’s up to drivers discretion

we had our machine delivered up two flights of stairs. usually by two deliverers. once by one man, who managed to get it up the stairs by himself. was very impressive. john lewis was the last company to deliver.

BlackeyedSusan · 06/02/2018 18:05

ask for a refund then.

Well they should have said that when you ordered so you could cancel. Try AO, they've been great with delivery for me.

NotAnotherEmma · 06/02/2018 18:06

It sounds more like the delivery people were just too lazy to take it upstairs.

Darkstar4855 · 06/02/2018 18:06

I second the recommendation to buy from a local company. We had the same problem with a fridge-freezer from Curry’s: it wouldn’t fit through our (standard sized) doorway and they refused to put it in through the front window so left it on the street. Since then I’ve always bought furniture etc. from local independent companies and never had a problem.

PonderLand · 06/02/2018 18:06

We've had deliveries left on the path before because there was a step upto the path leading to the door. I'm pretty sure the drivers get told not to do anything that could injure themselves by the company. I've had 3 solid wooden doors left on the street, I had to put them in our front garden till my partner got home.

I think you're going to have to ask your friends 'will you help me carry the washing machine' some people don't take hints and need it spelled out. I'm sure friends/family would help you if you make it more clear.

Springiscoming123 · 06/02/2018 18:09

Had the same with a bed from argos to

safariboot · 06/02/2018 18:12

Seems like you got a driver who couldn't be arsed then.

You're entitled to a refund of the basic delivery charge (but not necessarily any extra paid for fast/named day/etc delivery), and if you paid for installation you should be refunded that too. As well as the cost of the machine itself.

phoebemac · 06/02/2018 18:16

A bed, Spring? That's ridiculous, surely they take beds up flights of stairs on a regular basis??

Whatalife45 · 06/02/2018 18:20

Just rang Argos and they said they should have taken it up.
They’ve said they’ll redeliver tomorrow
Fingers crossed
