Anyone believe in Tarot?

Tbh I'm just at home bored and pondering today.

I had a reading that was exactly what I wanted to hear a few years ago (over the phone) and none of it happened... had another recently again over the phone, not exactly what I wanted to hear but the lady definitely picked up on the situation around me and I wasn't visible to her to read my body language etc

Sorry but they're complete charlatans. They read your body language and clues in person and just make it up over the phone!

On the other hand, my friends and I used to quite like doing it for fun at university. Buy your own set and learn how to use them if you're interested - it's a lot cheaper too!

If you need help with important decisions or something in your life though, please seek proper help.

I think they are useful to the extent that the vague statements they make about what is in the offing can be interpreted a number of ways, and what the interpretation shows about your preoccupations and priorities can be helpful.

Provided of course you see it that way, as a tool to help you to look within you. If you're expecting some sort of future-telling, then no it won't be any use at all as it becomes totally random at that point.

metababy · 04/02/2018 14:24

I just can't see how she could have made up the exact situation over the phone, she gave a lot of details...

But yet I'm still not convinced.

I think she genuinely believes in what she does rather than knowingly defrauding people iyswim

Meh lol

Nah, I think it's utter bollocks-sorry.

InSearchOfAPear · 04/02/2018 14:35

Just another way of conning people!

EastMidsMummy · 04/02/2018 14:39

A load of old bollocks.

Muffinbutton · 04/02/2018 14:40

I've had two face to face readings. One was very vague and rubbish. The other was so accurate.
She told me things about my (then) new partner that I had no idea him about but turned out to be true.

I've also used my own cards to read for someone that I met while backpacking. I had no idea what I was doing but by interpreting the cards with the help from the guide book I revealed things about her I could have not possibly have known (having only met her the day before). To be honest it spooked both of us somewhat!

Tapandgo · 04/02/2018 15:06

No _ how could it possibly be anything other than a game of deceit?

araiwa · 04/02/2018 15:45

unadulterated bollocks

Whitecurrants · 04/02/2018 15:47

Another vote for bollocks

maddiemookins16mum · 04/02/2018 15:49

It's all a load of tosh and exploits vulnerable people, it actually makes me very cross.

Valerrie · 04/02/2018 15:50

It's utter crap. I used to work for a tarot line in my student days and we were told to Google the cards and link them to clues the person on the line told us. We were trained how to lead them to tell us what we needed to hear to make them seem believable.

Another line I worked for had auto-readings come up on a screen and we just read them to the caller with a bit of ad lib.

itsbritneybeyatch · 04/02/2018 16:11

I second what Valerrie said. I have also worked for a tarot line in my student days. Load of tosh! Now I’m a bit more mature, I feel guilty about it as it really was a con 😞
We all had to read from a script (an A5 sheet for each card). Every so often, we were encouraged to throw a wild card in (eg Who is this man in a blue car?) More often than not, everyone knows someone with a blue car.... and then a comment like that would really impress the caller. I do apologise for anyone I ever unknowingly read for but at the time, I was desperate for cash.

TheQueenOfWands · 04/02/2018 16:16

I read tarot cards, hence my user name.

I've learnt what the cards mean and basically just tell the person that. I have no real psychic ability that I know of.

I never charged anyone though.

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 04/02/2018 16:20

My DM does; she used to go to see someone and they were all creepily accurate readings. Predictions came true and she got told things she'd never have mentioned. She is sceptical about the majority of readers but thinks occasionally you find people with some form of heightened perception. She's very rational usually.

usualGubbins · 04/02/2018 16:25

I've done an evening class on Tarot reading (no I didn't want to do it, it was my friend who wanted to and I went for company). They gave out sheets to tell you what the cards meant. After a week or so I was bored stiff so started making stuff up. This got more and more "imaginative". All very amusing for me, but sadly nobody to share it with as the rest were all fervent believers. I was told that out of the whole class I was the one with 'true vision'!!!

Honestly, if you'd heard the load of bollox I was spouting you'd have all been in hysterics. Load of rubbish in my opinion!
