Disregard of dark paint colours aren't contentious enough for you. Would it be completely unreasonable to paint my kitchen/diner dark green (olive toned). The cabinets are white. Counter tops are dark grey. The flooring is a light wood effect. White bookcases along the walls in the dining section. Large window/French doors at the end of the room. The house is a stock standard new build. This isn't a forever house for us so we would eventually sell it.
