I had the copper coil inserted a month ago for emergency and recently had the copper coil removed two weeks ago due to constant bleeding and discomfort (after my period). My partner and I stupidly had unprotected sex on Sunday and the condom split in Tuesday so I took Ella one on Wednesday. I went to have another coil put in but the clinic aren't happy because they said "we can't keep putting them in and out" please don't judge me I am so sick with anxiety I don't know what to do. Go ahead with the coil or take a chance with the Ella. Please help

Go and speak to your GP

Have you tried the mirena coil? It has less side effects than a lot of things and is extremely reliable.

Tamularoom · 03/02/2018 20:03

The coil is fairly costly on the NHS so if you are (in their eyes) using it purely as an emergenc contraceptive regularly then they are of course likely to refuse.

I agree with the PP about mirena, give that a go I am currently on my third, no periods in that time and no unplanned pregnancy/complications.

In regard to the EllaOne it wouldn't have covered your unprotected sex on the Sunday by Weds, it is most effective 24hrs after. Please go back to your GP and work out the best long term contraceptive for you.

You’re too late to have another copper coil for emergency contraception as the first unprotected intercourse was more than 5 days ago. Avoid sex or use a condom this weekend and get something sorted on Monday at the family planning clinic. Mirena or the implant are good options but you’ll need to do a pregnancy test in 2-3 week’s time before they go ahead with this. Try not to worry too much, easier said than done I know x

WickedLazy · 03/02/2018 20:05

Could you get an implant?

canderella · 03/02/2018 20:10

Ella one covers the first 5 days?

You have taken Ella one for the recent unprotected sex and hopefully it will work.
Your safest bet would be to avoid sex until your period comes and at that point start an effective contraception.Go to a clinic or your GP in the meantime to discuss your options and to tee up whatever your choice is. Sex is meant to be fun and enjoyable not to leave you with all this anxiety
