Dyson or other?

My Dyson V6 appears to have given up the ghost. The brushes won't turn on either of the heads, I've googled and tried all possible fixes but it tells me I need to order a new main body. Then this is the only part I cannot order as it should be replaced by a qualified engineer....

So I'm looking to replace and wondered if it's worth sticking with Dyson (I've been v pleased with it overall, but it hasn't exactly lasted me years - I got it maybe 3 years ago?) or whether to try a cheaper alternative. Argos have some good deals on similar Vax cordless hoovers. Can anyone recommend other makes or have you experience of others compared to Dyson and you still think Dyson are worth the extra?

I do love my dyson but is it me or does it need so much attention getting clogged up all the time snd needing taking apart and cleaning?

Still I love the cordless and the fact it’s so Light

Whatever you do, don't go for the Hoover Discovery. We recently replaced a Henry with one, and it's a total POS.

Get a Sebo

mummyhaschangedhername · 30/01/2018 12:24

I loved my Dyson UNTIL I changed it about 18 months ago and I HATE the new one. So I switched to a sebo. Honestly I had never heard of them and my husband decided to research and came up with that idea, but it's the best vacuum I have ever owned. Hands down better than the Dyson and although it does have bags, it's awesome, no more trying to empty that stupid cylinder from the Dyson and then loose dust everywhere. The bags last forever too, plus it's picks up everything, I have 4 children and it's been fantastic whereas my Dyson wouldn't pick it up at all and would get blocked every single time I used it.

Another vote for Sebo from me...

I have a Shark and I wouldn't trade it for anything. Love it.

TalkLessSmileMore · 30/01/2018 12:43

There sure are a lot of Sebo fans on here. Unfortunately it doesn’t appear that Sebo makes a cordless vac.

I’m having the same dilemma as you, OP, except I’ve never had a Dyson, just because I’ve always been too cheap. I’ve had a Shark and I now have an AEG Ergorapido. They’re both OK but not great, and they die too quickly I think. I’ve been pondering taking the plunge on a Dyson but it’s not encouraging to hear that yours only lasted two years.

Hmm yes sorry should have perhaps said I'd like another cordless ideally...
