Flipping chlamydia

Help. A partner just told me he has been diagnosed with chlamydia, presumably after unprotected oral sex with someone, and I now need to get tested too. I feel really scared tbh. What happens? When do you hear results? A million apologies for tmi Sad

You go and get tested but treatment is just one tablet and it always used to be if youve gone because youve been told to by someone they will just give you the treatment without waiting for results.

I just want to know if I have anything asap!

pretty tricky to catch it from oral sex by the way. he may not be being totally honest with you. A clinic will treat you whether or not your test is +ve as you are a contact.

When I was tested before my coil was fitted they just handed me a giant swab (it looks comical tbh) and I went to the toilet, put in inside my fanjo and gave it to the nurse in the a plastic bag. They send that off and you get the results. No one even had to go near my vagina at all so it's not embarrassing.

How on earth do you get Chlamydia from oral sex? Confused

Swiftembarrassednamechangeargh · 30/01/2018 10:04

It's apparently a thing - I believe him that he has protected sex otherwise

When do you get results? Is same day too much to ask?

I got it in my eye once. That was pretty horrific. Go straight to the GP or your local sexual health clinic as it can be pretty damaging if left too late.

Swiftembarrassednamechangeargh · 30/01/2018 10:07

I just want to know how soon they can tell me if I have it

I think it was about a week/10 days

ThisLittleKitty · 30/01/2018 10:22

What on earth do you have to be doing to get it in your eye!? I didn't even know you could get it from oral tbh.

youngnomore · 30/01/2018 10:24

How can you get it from oral sex. Confused. It’s a swab and then tablets.

Swiftembarrassednamechangeargh · 30/01/2018 10:29

I'm expecting the tablets, but I want to know if I actually have it same day as test of possible?

I caught chlamydia once. It was embarrassing but not traumatic. Had a couple of symptoms so was seen pretty quickly, but it still took a week before I got the results. I think that's pretty normal, as they have to send off the test sample and someone has to take a look at it. They'd have to have their own lab and technicians for you to get the results on the same day.

Got the results, took the antibiotics, and was offered a follow-up test a few weeks later to make sure the infection had completely cleared. I don't know how it works in the UK because I was in a different country at the time, but I also had to have a session with a counsellor, whose job was to help me trace and contact previous partners and talk me through what chlamydia is and how I could avoid it in the future. I'm sure it can be helpful to some, but I'd already spoken directly to the person I caught the infection from, as well as spending many hours reading up about chlamydia on the internet, so by that stage the counselling meeting felt pretty patronising.

Totally possible to catch through unprotected oral sex, as I used condoms with this person for penetrative sex every single time. He was very into oral sex so probably had the chlamydia in his throat and passed it on that way.

Viviene · 30/01/2018 12:27

Can you not assume that you have it? That way you will stop panicking about the same day results, will take a tablet and wait until the tests are back.

maras2 · 30/01/2018 12:28

yupbeenthere Thanks for the info. Every day a school day. Grin

Eilasor · 30/01/2018 12:44

There was an epidemic in my school (I'm mid-20s), when I was about 14/15, of people in my year catching chlamydia through oral sex. It was a rather prestigious private boarding school in SE England. We had a big lecture about how easily it can be spread and a lot of compulsory meetings with the school nurse.

Never had I been more thankful to have been dating someone outside of the school Halo.
