Oh no, that's very upsetting. Is there any comeback? Can you repeat exams?

Allthewaves · 30/01/2018 01:43

Did u know if you failed that they would give you notice?

OhHeyArnold · 30/01/2018 01:47

Yes I did. I am appealing as I believe I have grounds to do so, and have had support with my application. I still feel shitty. Work is also extremely busy and I am finishing very late every night. I’m not sure whether I’m a mug for working so hard throughout this

Not sure what sector you work in but is common in big 4 accountancy firms and I think from what I remember from a friend (who had the same as you) that it was in her work contract

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 30/01/2018 02:16

Do you have to work your notice period?

Whiterabbitears · 30/01/2018 02:58

Are you part of a union? If so can they offer advice?

Coyoacan · 30/01/2018 03:05

Oh that is shit, OP. So sorry. I was fired from a job where I knew they had already fired our brightest and best, but it still felt shit.

flumpybear · 30/01/2018 03:22

Can't you resit ?

DarkPeakScouter · 30/01/2018 03:34

Can you resit them?

Oooocrikeyitscold · 30/01/2018 03:50

Oh that is really rubbish and I feel for you particularly if you are currently in audit and therefore in busy season.
There tends to be a phone call prior to the decision of you being fired and they look at exam failures as a whole, eg bad fails/second time fails and they say how will we treat them, sometimes if attrition is high they will allow bad fails for instance.
The appeal process is pretty tough to overturn as they don’t love information presented post the decision, feel that extenduating circumstances should have been agreed pre taking exam. This all being said I have seen appeals be successful. They will often consider how far through your exams you are, eg if you failed a first one there considering if you will be successful for the rest.

At my firm we often take good candidates from audit and place them in advisory but again often depends how far through you are.

Dependent on how far through you are you do need to consider if you really want this, eg if it’s one of your first exams then do you want to spend the next few years taking exams? Maybe there is another career you would prefer?
Also, whilst your contract probably says one month very often during busy season they will extend the notice period to 3 plus months as they need you.

Do you have a coach/people manager you can talk this through with? Are you close to Any partners? You’ll be amazed at individual partners influence in this.

Wishing you well

I'm so sorry OP. I'm in a similar position ATM, can't pass the last five percent of this course my job is dependent on and if I don't pass this one assignment third time around I'll be fired or redeployed. It's an awful self esteem destroying worrying experience and has badly affected my MH to the point of severe depression and doing some stuff to myself to cope I'm not proud of. Lots of love xx

OhHeyArnold · 30/01/2018 21:32

Thanks all.

My partner has written a letter of support and I have been told the appeals process is the only means of protesting ie this is the standard and only procedure. I achieved a bad fail in an exam and failed the other two.

I am in a small tax sub sector but unfortunately not very close to partners, however I have received a great deal of support from the graduate/pastoral team in my dept who know my circumstances and seem to want to fight for me.

It is my tenth, eleventh and twelfth exams and I have a good track record in place. So it is not like I am unable to pass these exams. I find the pressure absolutely overwhelming sometimes however (of the study and exams) and feel drained and demotivated!
