To wish people could sit through a film without stuffing their faces

No problem with people having a bar of chocolate, or quietly eating some popcorn. But people who spend half the film guzzling and slurping and chewing and munching and rustling through paper bags and stinking the place out with greasy hot dogs and stinking nachos drive me mad.

AIBU and trying to deprive people of the full 'cinema experience'?

That is the the full cinema experience

BitOutOfPractice · 29/01/2018 14:36

I agree. But I find constant snacking puzzling anyway.

Do you listen to the Simon Mayo and Mark Kermode film programme. It's on FRiday at 2pm on radio 5Live and it's also available as a podcast. I recommend it. Very entertaining. They have very strict rules / code of conduct about this sort of thing

PipGirl404 · 29/01/2018 14:36

Its minging, I agree, but also part and parcel of going to the cinema... so one must learn to abide the rabid food-munchers.

Hello to Jason Isaacs!

I've read Mayo and Kermode's guide to how to behave in the cinema. Very funny and very accurate Smile

But cinemas are the only place I know that I can get tango slush puppies......

Stormwhale · 29/01/2018 14:39

I don't see why it bothers you so much. Focus on what you are doing and ignore the others.

People eating doesn't bother me. The bloke who loudly snored through 'Coco' last week though...

BexConnor · 29/01/2018 14:39

I can't stand all the packet rustling you get all the way through at the start of a film. But I do half suspect I have misophonia so it's probably just me Grin

BitOutOfPractice · 29/01/2018 14:40

"of super high density, rustle-o-matic, extra rustle bags. No foraging of any kind, if you're going to need it during the film, get it out before hand" Grin

Because crunching through a whole trough of nachos or other crunchy stuff makes it really hard to enjoy the film. Ruins the tension, spoils my enjoyment. That's why it bothers me.

MotherofaSurvivor · 29/01/2018 14:42

The 2 things that get me are when people keep rattling the packet plastic whilst chewing. And those that keep their mouth open whilst chewing... AngryAngryAngry

SmallBuisnessOwner · 29/01/2018 14:42

Worry about yourself if you hate the sound of other people buy a projector.

BitOutOfPractice · 29/01/2018 14:43

I think we can tell who eats nachos in the cinema on this thread can't we? Grin

user1485342611 · 29/01/2018 14:44

I'm not worried about them smallbusiness, but I find the noise really distracting and someone sitting beside me slurping away at greasy smelly food a bit stomach turning.

OP posts:
Stormwhale · 29/01/2018 14:44

Bit - I think if you are that bothered you might need to watch films at home. You are never going to get complete silence in a room full of people.

missmouse101 · 29/01/2018 14:44

I don't packet rustle, but half the fun of going to the cinema is stuffing your face! The seats are so uncomfortable and the film so loud and the other people present coughing and breathing the same air, that I need to console myself somehow!!

HarrietKettleWasHere · 29/01/2018 14:45

Hate clunky rattling drinks full of ice. That then keep being sipped long after the drink is gone and it's just rubble. It's not a fucking percussion accompaniment to the film. Just bloody well put it down.

I had a man start eating KFC chicken peices next to me once.

He actually had the gall to look offended when I moved seats.

Stormwhale · 29/01/2018 14:45

If it helps I have never had nachos at the cinema. I like popcorn.

BitOutOfPractice · 29/01/2018 14:46

I don't expect complete silence stormwhale. I would like to think that people wouldn't be making irritating noise that is unecessary

Eat things that aren't noisy. Switch your phone off. Stop chatting. Basic stuff like that.

HarrietKettleWasHere · 29/01/2018 14:47

I take wine and sometimes cubes of cheese to the cinema. Silent and sophisticated Grin

The wine is purely for anesthetic purposes to combat being squashed in with what is a predominantly annoying crowd of people.

BexConnor · 29/01/2018 14:47

It could be worse - was once sitting in the middle of the aisle (trapped) and someone near by kept letting off these abysmal silent farts. Was pretty sure it was the bloke sitting next to me. It was simultaneously vile and quite hard not to laugh.

Caspiana · 29/01/2018 14:47

I only go to the cinema for the popcorn Grin

LemonShark · 29/01/2018 14:47

YANBU. People who eat loud crunchy rustly or smelly food are the ones BU!

Viviennemary · 29/01/2018 14:48

Rustling is annoying. I hate loud laughter and constant whispering. And folk jumping around in the seat in front and constantly moving their heads.
