To think low level hallucinations could be down to stress?

Past few weeks I've been having low level hallucinations. I see something running across the floor out the corner of my eye, when I look properly there is nothing there. Earlier I saw spiralling lights up and to the right of me - nothing there. I saw someone walk past me behind me earlier, nobody there.

I'm under a lot of stress at the minute, AIBU to think it's probably related and nothing more serious than stress?

Lack of sleep does that to me.

CheapSausagesAndSpam · 27/01/2018 23:36

Stress or an eye problem OP....go to see the optician asap.

gamerchick · 27/01/2018 23:39

Yeah I get this when my stress levels are pretty high because it means I’m not sleeping properly either. Lots of vivid dreams.

It is worth having a checkup at the eye doctor though. Just means covering all bases.

gamerchick · 27/01/2018 23:41

I swear to god at work I was bending over doing something and I felt someone and saw out of the corner of my eye walk into the room and stop behind me. When I stood up and turned round to see what they wanted I was alone in the room.

Proper heebies that day but I was massively stressed out at that time.

The mind plays funny tricks on you when your body is on high alert all the time.

Wayfarersonbaby · 27/01/2018 23:47

When I was having a slow retinal detachment, over a period of time I saw flashing lights at one side of my vision, out of the corner of my eye - and flickering patterns of shadows. New floaters can also look like things running along the edges of your vision. It might be nothing, but worth having your eyes checked, just in case, OP!

IntelligentYetIndecisive · 28/01/2018 00:04

Yes. I remember now.

Flashing lights are not a good sign.

See an optician asap.

Then get some sleep.

Welldoneme · 28/01/2018 00:09

Are you psychic?

I see dead people all the time, have done since I was a small child and I used to think I was a schizophrenic until I realised I had special gifts.

EggsonHeads · 28/01/2018 00:11

Yes, I get that when I am tired/on edge.

QueenNefertitty · 28/01/2018 00:11

Exhaustion and too many hours at the screen does that to me.

Although the house is running with mice at the minute which isn't helping at all....Hmm

QueenNefertitty · 28/01/2018 00:11

@welldoneme

You sound bonkers

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/01/2018 00:24

I agree, first you need to get your eyes checked. Monday at the very latest unless the flashing lights get worse or if you get any permanent shadows. If that happens then a&e.

Drainedandconfused · 28/01/2018 00:31

It’s probably stress, when I’m super stressed out I feel drunk (I don’t actually drink) and very swimmy in the head, almost like a sea sicky sort of feeling. If I have that combined with a horrible reoccurring dream I know I need to take time out. Stress can cause many weird physical and mental issues.

Christmascardqueen · 28/01/2018 00:36

my husband has "floaters" protein particles in his eyes that he sometimes "sees" depends on lighting.
could also be a visual migraine.

idontlikealdi · 28/01/2018 00:38

I used to see spiders when dts were small and I was beyond sleep deprived.

arousingcheer · 28/01/2018 00:45

I get this sort of thing from lack of sleep, but do have your eyes checked in any case.

Ginkypig · 28/01/2018 01:11

I have had diagnosed mental health issues ptsd depression for many years and when Iv been chronically low for a while without a break I get what the doctor calls pseudo (auditory and visual) hallucinations.

They present quite similar to what your describing.

The doctor was very insistent on knowing If I can tell if they are real or not as that is a indication of becoming very unwell and in need of intervention.

MonaLiPeach · 28/01/2018 09:45

No I don't see dead people, at least, I hope I don't!

Thanks for the responses. I'll get it checked out

Are you sure you don't have mice? I thought I was hallucinating the first few times I saw things scurrying across the floor, they're so fast!

dancinfeet · 28/01/2018 11:11

I think it's stress related, I often see things running up the walls or shadows moving out of the corner of my eye wen I am over tired and have got a lot on with work

brizzledrizzle · 28/01/2018 11:35

If I've had a stressful day at work then I see giant spiders walking across the bedroom walls. As you can imagine that does nothing to reduce my stress levels!
