To think this traffic sign would be really helpful? Pic

"Priority to alternate lanes"
I think about this at least weekly Hmm
If on a 2 lanes road - lane B shutting
Signs saying this - 200 yards etc
Cars move to lane A
A queue develops
People go on joining lane A, some stay in lane B and go past people who have been in queue longer and bank on podging in at the end
Sometimes a lorry blocks road purposely so these people can't go past
If we had a priority to alternate lanes sign, both lanes A and B could be full - probably easing congestion behind them e.g on roundabout, traffic lights- and everyone would have their fair turn to go through narrow section
Saw it in France years ago
Can't see why it wouldn't work here?

I'm sure I've seen "filter in turn" signs for that

TittyGolightly · 27/01/2018 16:52

People should do exactly that - the Highway Code states you should merge in turn (not sit in lane A getting arsey and obstructive towards those that are doing it properly!).

Because you get knobs who go racing up the free lane and force their way in, nearly causing an accident.

abitoflight · 27/01/2018 16:59

Thank you titty!
So it's called zip merging
As it says in RAC piece, people in longer slow queue feel they are correct and get resentful
I think it would be a useful sign as clearly lots of people don't know! It would just say zip merge on lane closure signage - I think that would be greatSmile

No-one should be racing up the free lane but it should be used. The designers of the road works have planned that merge point specifically and drivers should merge in turn. If idiots want to queue for a mile before the merge point that’s their lookout.
