Mylife.com - What is this?

Just now and again I check up on "internet" presence, both mine and that of family members. I googled my Father, all fine, just got his death announcement. Googled Mother and got a link to myline.com.
Now my Mother is 87 and pretty computer literate, but I am 100% sure she is not on much social media.
Where do these companies get their information and why are "normal" people unable to protect themselves from this "mining" or "gathering"?
I am actually rather shocked (and have worked in IT for over 30 years).

From publicly available records?

If it's a search result it's embedded keywords. You could type daisy duke and probably get the same result. The sites and PPC links generate from what you enter if one or.both words are on their list of 'keywords'.

As someone that's worked in IT for 30yrs it's a bit weird you don't know that also some sites pull data from othersources to generate legit looking pages that are anything but.

Isn't myline a site for calling credit for overseas??

mumpoints · 27/01/2018 17:49

Is it myline or mylife?

MyLine is an English Learning site, MyLife is a data gathering tool with a gimmick.
