Should I go for 2nd mammogram

More of a wwyd
Last year (June ish) I thought I had a breast lump so went to the Dr who fast tracked me to the breast clinic. Fortunately all was fine. Just thickening of the breast tissue.

I have just received a letter from the breast screening saying an appointment has been made for another mammogram in march.
This is because I am one of the trial women selected to have screening earlier.

I am 48 finished the menopause about 4 years ago (very early I know)

What would you do.... Go along and have the mammogram
Or cancel the appointment and tell them I had one last year and not be part of the trial, but may have to wait until past 50 for another one

I know mammograms aren't good for the body hence my question

MsHomeSlice · 27/01/2018 10:15

what does it say in the letter?....there was a whole screed of if's and but's on the one I had recently

and a phone number to call, if in doubt

AllButterShortbread · 27/01/2018 10:17

I’d go.

Topseyt · 27/01/2018 10:20

Absolutely without a shadow of a doubt, I would go.

insancerre · 27/01/2018 10:48

Exactly the same happened to me
I'm now 50 and had another regular mammogram which has resulted in a recall and a biopsy
I've just got an appointment through for another biopsy in 2 weeks

Spam88 · 27/01/2018 11:15

Did you have both breasts done previously? I'd still go, they should ask about previous mammograms and they'll have a time frame in which they won't repeat it but I can't remember how long that is. You can always call up and ask though?

MsHomeSlice · 27/01/2018 12:37

really..call up and ask, there is not any sense in wasting an appointment they could give to someone else for the sake of a 30 second phone call.

spam88 my mum gets an annual mammogram due to previous cancer so a year in between screening is fine.

Phone and ask them op.
