So if you are interviewing on behalf of a major nationally recognised company with proper HR procedures then you don't tell someone on a 2nd stage phone interview that you are definitely calling them in for the next stage of interview as they have really impressed you then email them randomly 2 days later saying you are not taking their application any further? With no explanation?

YANBU. Have you contacted them for further feedback?

UpstartCrow · 26/01/2018 21:54

Ugh no, yanbu.

HildaZelda · 26/01/2018 22:04

YANBU. This happened to me a few years ago. I went for an interview with a privately owned business and was interviewed by the owner and manager. They basically told me that the sun shone out of my arse and that they would DEFINITELY be calling me back for the next round.
A couple of days later I got a very snooty phone call from the owner who told me 'You're not quite the image our company is looking for" and said goodbye and hung up before I could even ask why?!
Completely unprofessional OP as was your experience, but some companies just don't seem to care.

My dh went for a job interview once. Got called back for 2nd interview and of course thought it was a good sign. Only to have someone else who basically picked holes in everything and made him feel like an utter twat. He walked away feeling really deflated.

He has emailed the guy back who did the telephone interview as the email came from somebody else. But no reply as of yet although was late in the afternoon. I'm so upset for him; he was so happy the phone interview had gone so well and has gone away with some friends for a rare sports break overnight and happened to check his emails this afternoon to find that.

This happens a lot. Could be that someone has given a poor reference, some background check is dodgy, someone better came along etc.

JustKeepStumbling · 26/01/2018 22:36

Bluebells, I don't think it would have got to reference check yet but he wouldn't have anything but an exemplary one; he's highly regarded within the company he's in. He's a workaholic and the one who always stays late to get things finished when others pull sickies and don't turn up. And exemplary record; no criminal record etc. It's just really horrid that the interviewer told him he was definitely through to the next round then this email appears.

He had the same happen last year; interviewed for a really niche role and the guy interviewing was really positive giving the impression he had it in the bag. Said he was abroad for a couple of weeks and would let him know when he was back about trial period and so he waited, and waited... then eventually I said email them to find out what was happening and they replied and said sorry a woman who had previous experience in this very niche role (very unusual for anyone to have worked in it) had appeared after his interview so they'd given her the job and forgotten to let DP know! It sends him into a real downer unsurprisingly.

Nooo... I’m currently waiting to hear back about a second interview date, it was supposed to be next Wed but they won’t lock it in for some reason.

Now I’m cakking myself cos in the delay I’ve realised I really want to work for this company.

JustKeepStumbling · 26/01/2018 22:47

It's horrible going through it ChalkItDown. I feel for anyone having to do it as it's tough out there. Good luck I hope you get your interview.
