Vacuum dilemma

Inspired by the clumsy but helpful DM thread, I am wondering what you would do about this one

My DM helps me out sometimes whilst she is at mine and whilst I was away on holiday she came to visit DD and did some vacuuming (Upright cleaner) then decided to clean the filter. Only she did not allow the filter to dry out properly and back into the vacuum it went still wet

A week later on my return I plugged in the vacuum, and the room filled with a hideous smell and dark stinky fluid leaked onto the floor. After investigating a while I worked out that the filter had leaked fluid into the motor at the bottom of the vacuum and that the smell and leak was happening when the motor was switched on

I tried cleaning the filter and parts again and running the vacuum in the garage to burn it off but no the stink was still there.

DM was unconvinced that she was responsible as "the filter was dry when she put it back in" it had been left to dry overnight apparently. I know it was the filter as it was at the top of the vacuum and damp and stinky a week on.

So resolved to get another vacuum

Ordered one for pickup - £90 - and DM offered to pick it up on her way as was passing the store. She put the cost on her cc and I said would pay her back

On getting home she says I have used a £20 voucher for the store I got for Christmas as I did not have anything I wanted to buy (then topped up with cc). You can still give me the full value back and I will use the £20 to buy myself something nice

I will give her the full amount back at payday, but is this not adding insult to injury or AIB ungrateful?

My DM is often in my house. If she broke our hoover there's no way I'd charge her, but she does a lot for us

Yabu for "stinky" Grin

It is quite cheeky of her but she tried to do you a favour and it's your mother. I'd probably let this go.
