I have had the most horrendous ear infection for the last two weeksSad
My left ear is totally blocked and nothing is helping! Antibiotics finish tomorrow but my ear still feels full, feels like I'm under water!
Aibu to ask for the ever wise wisdom of mumsnet to give me suggestions to help?
This message comes to you from under the towel over a bowl of steaming water! Grin

Sleep if possible.

It may distract you from your ear

mineofuselessinformation · 24/01/2018 20:28

If it's outer ear, try to sleep on your left side, middle ear on the right. It will help it to drain.
Sympathies, it's a horrible feeling.

A word of caution - be very gentle if you need to blow your nose. I had the same ear thing and I burst my ear drum yesterday 🙉

Hey lovely. Ear infections are horrible. I had one a few years back and my ear drum burst. The pain went away with antibiotics however it took about two weeks after the anti biotics stopped to get my hearing back.

You do feel like it’s always going to be blocked! It’s horrible! Sit tight, but if it’s still painful you may need a longer course of AB.

Hot flannel on the ear. SHould help relieve the pressures.

I had an awful ear infection which antibiotics didn't touch. A bit gross but it was because my ear was totally blocked with ear wax. The dr couldn't syringe it because of the infection. It was awful. The thing that helped me was putting olive oil in. It softened the wax over night and some came out the following morning which relieved the pressure and then the infection cleared up. I did still have to go to a specialist clinic to have the rest of the wax suctioned out ( again- gross, sorry). Anyway try the olive oil.

Oh no, afrikat that's my worst fear at the moment, you poor thing Cake!
Thank you everyone, ill try sleeping on my right tonight as I've been trying to stay on my left, poor DH hasn't any room between me and the wall of pillows I have down the middle of the bed to stop me rolling over! Smile
I've to ring the GP back on Friday and he'll see how things are, hopefully he has a few tricks up his sleeve

Popfan I'll try olive oil tomorrow, daft question do I just pop a few drops in and let it swish around or is there more finesse to it?!

I just put some on a teaspoon and poured it in. Easier for someone else to do it. Then lie on your side with the ear up so it can seep in. My mum warms it a bit too I think ( steam the bottom of the spoon with the kettle (oil in spoon when you do it). Good luck. I'd forgotten how awful ear infection are until I had that one!
