mumfor1standfinaltime · 27/04/2007 22:50

Eh? It is a dressing up costume!

Londonmamma · 27/04/2007 22:52

Yes, you're being unreasonable

TooTicky · 27/04/2007 22:53

I like to be able to see children's faces. Much nicer.

edam · 27/04/2007 22:54

agree Mrs, makes me shudder.

mrsjohnsimnelcake · 27/04/2007 22:57

i know it is a dressing up costume,, i didn't think they had spiderman heads!
but i think they just look unpleasna ta dn creepy somehow.

Given a choice, I wouldn't opt to dress my boys as Spiderman. They were given the outfit as a pesent, they both loved it and it would have been mean of me to stop them wearing it. The adjective 'gimpy' is quite hurtful when directed at a small boy, dressed as his favourite superhero

chipmonkey · 27/04/2007 23:06

Who used "gimpy" LM?

Aitchooo · 27/04/2007 23:07

deffo gimpy and freaky mrsjs. i totally know what you mean.

Londonmamma · 27/04/2007 23:11

The OP uses the word 'gimpy'

Aitchooo · 27/04/2007 23:13

as in 'gimp' mask, surely? is that offensive in and of itself?

Londonmamma · 27/04/2007 23:17

I said 'hurtful' not 'offensive' and the OP describes the boys wearing the full spiderman costume as 'creepy and gimpy'

Aitchooo · 27/04/2007 23:18

i don't imagine that mrsjs is intending on running up to small boys and insutling them, lol. you're being a bit prickly i think...

chipmonkey · 27/04/2007 23:19

Isn't "gimp" an offensive word for people with CP?

Aitchooo · 27/04/2007 23:22

not one i've heard but supposing you're right but mrsjs absolutely meant it with reference to a gimp mask (which seems more likely given the spidey masks) - is she not allowed to say it?

Londonmamma · 27/04/2007 23:23

not really - my boys are way past the age for wearing spiderman costumes now. I just know how much they loved it, therefore there must now be three and four year olds who love it, therefore I'm cautioning use of the description 'creepy and gimpy' as a bit hurtful, that's all

Aitchooo · 27/04/2007 23:25

no one is saying it to their little gimp-masked faces, londonmamma...

Aitchooo · 27/04/2007 23:25

where is mrsjs? i'm turning into a gimp apologist here...

Londonmamma · 27/04/2007 23:30

I know she's not going to shout 'gimp' at them LOL! That's not what I meant.

mrsjohnsimnelcake · 27/04/2007 23:42

just think they are...i am sure your boys are lovely, londondmama, but i wouldn't knwo if theyare wearing said outfit.

I apologise for the use of the word gimp if it truly is insulting to people with CP, i had just understood it was a mask that poeple like to wear when having dodgy sex... and the spiderman mask reminded me of it.

I have actullay googled GIMP now and stand corrected, it is some sort of bery boring computer program apparently
so we are all safe- as you were ladies, Move along, nothing to see etc

madamez · 28/04/2007 00:04

Chipmonkey: I tend to think of "gimp" as a word used for certain types of sexual diversity.

Not that I'm suggesting anythign AT ALL bout people who's DCs get dressed as spidermen.

Londonmamma · 28/04/2007 00:34

I am having a good laugh at this thread now. I think we should lay it to rest before it takes on a life all of its own...

Good night all

ipanemagirl · 28/04/2007 00:37

if you want to see a real gimp look

here

Manictigger · 28/04/2007 16:34

Now that is scary. Does anyone else see little boys dressed as Spiderman and immediately think of Kenny Everett? No? Only me then?

kslatts · 28/04/2007 17:11

I think you are being unreasonable, can't see how a child in spiderman outfit can be unpleasant.

sunnysideup · 28/04/2007 17:57

Spiderman outfits are one of the ugliest IMO, second only to power rangers.....but of course if the boys want to live in them, they must. But nice to look at, they aren't.

Went to see Peter Pan at the theatre recently and some little boys were dressed up either as Pan or Captain Hook, and they looked gorgeous - eatable!
