First period after copper iud insertion?

Had copper iud inserted 3 weeks ago. In the last week I’ve had progressively increasing dark brown black spotting using up to 2 liners a day. Today it seems my period has started although is very light (using 2-3 light pads). I have no abdominal cramping only lower back. Has anyone else's cycle started off like this? Should it get heavier? Would appreciate all advice and experiences as if trying to determine if this even is my period.. thanks

I haven't had a period since i had my Mirena coil fitted 6 weeks after my DS2 was born am now on coil 2 DS is 8 perfect!

Hi there, I think the first cycle is really hard to tell which is bleeding from insertion and the bleeding from your period. In all honesty for the first 6 weeks I just let it all happen and then started tracking it when I defo knew the spotting has stopped.
I was the same though, a couple of times I thought it was my period but it wasn't and I just sort of gave up worrying about it. It will sort itself out in the next week or two but I'm sure it's flipping annoying just now!

Also you're right about the different type of period pain, I hadn't made that connection before. Although this month is the first month since I had the coil put in that there has been hardly any period pain and cramps. Maybe it's finally sorted itself out!
