Hi I was thinking about become a vlogger on YouTube and vlogging about my journey with anxiety to try and help myself and help other people who suffer as well so that they don't feel so alone and I can talk about my good days and my bad days. Is it a good idea or a terrible idea and I should just forget about it. All opinions welcome.

Do you have a therapist to talk to about this? I would be worried that it would give you one more thing to trigger your anxiety.

ScreamingValenta · 22/01/2018 18:00

As long as it helps you, I don't see why you shouldn't try it - if others start watching it and find it helpful, that's a bonus.

Shootfirstaskquestionslater · 22/01/2018 18:01

Eggsonheads No I don't have a therapist. Maybe your right it might just add more on to my plate for me to worry about. Thank you.

ScreamingValenta I think it would help me because I would be able to get a lot of things off my chest and maybe help some other people just not sure anyone would watch it. Thank you.

People write horrible comments in YouTube videos, regardless if the subject matter. If that is likely to make your anxiety worse then it's probably not the best thing for you right now. Would finding a local support group be easier perhaps?

Wolfiefan · 22/01/2018 18:04

Would people be able to comment? Would you be able to cope with idiots? What if someone you knew saw it? Kid's teacher? Boss?

ScreamingValenta · 22/01/2018 18:06

I don't really know how you go about publicising vlogs - if you are on any social media groups related to anxiety, perhaps that might be a route? If the process of making the vlog takes a weight off you, that might be the best thing to focus on, and just regard any followers you gain as a bonus. Also, it's a cliche, but if even one person watches it and benefits, then it will have done some good - you don't need to aim for hundreds of watchers.

Shootfirstaskquestionslater · 22/01/2018 18:06

TheFlis12345 yeah your right people can be really nasty on the YouTube comments would just upset me and make me feel worse so maybe it's not such a good idea. I will look in to a local support group. Thank you.

You can disable comments on YouTube, I think? Prepared to be corrected, but I have seen 'comments disabled' on some videos I have watched.

Shootfirstaskquestionslater · 22/01/2018 18:13

Wolfiefan yes people would be able to comment I think and I hadn't thought about people who know me finding it that's a very good point well made thank you.

ScreamingValenta thank you that might be a better route to go down and I will find some anxiety groups to post on instead. Exactly if I can help to make just one person feel better then great I'm not aiming for hundreds or views or followers.

screamingValenta I think you can disable comments but I'm not sure how you do that I would have to look in to it.

Maybe make the videos but don't post them anywhere. Tell your tale and then delete?

Neverender · 22/01/2018 18:28

You can disable comments but then you wouldn't know who you'd helped. Perhaps you're doing this more for you, and that's ok too

Shootfirstaskquestionslater · 22/01/2018 18:29

Neverender that's a great idea I can get it all on video just not for the world to see. Thank you.

OP posts:
Shootfirstaskquestionslater · 22/01/2018 18:30

Neverender it started off as being just something for me but it would be nice if I could help some people too.

I do t think broadcasting to the world is a very good way to get things off your chest. Don't you want some privacy? Do you want all employers for the next 40 years to find and watch it before deciding whether to give you a job? Do you think the possibility of negative comments or worrying about no one watching you will make you feel better about yourself?

I don't suffer from anxiety at all but still find the idea of broadcasting my personal feelings to the world likely to be very damaging mentally.

gamerwidow · 22/01/2018 18:38

I think you are vulnerable at the moment and think that it is right you have reconsidered exposing yourself to the wild west that is the Internet. Do the videos for yourself to order your thoughts and hopefully you’ll be able to look back at them one day and see how far you’ve come!

yawning801 · 22/01/2018 18:41

Instagram is quite good for things like this, because you can directly message people and post quotes etc.

yawning801 · 22/01/2018 18:41

Plus, you can regulate who follows you by making your account private.

Shootfirstaskquestionslater · 22/01/2018 18:46

KimmySchmidt1* yeah your right anyone could find the videos and then I might struggle to get a job in the future because once it's on the internet it's there forever. Thank you.

gamerwidow yeah your right I don't think I'm a good place right now to be broadcasting myself all over the internet and if it goes wrong or people get nasty it will only set me back. Probably better for me to just do the videos and keep them for myself. Thank you.

Shootfirstaskquestionslater · 22/01/2018 18:49

yawning801 that's a brilliant idea I could do it on Instagram instead of YouTube and I can keep it all private. Thank you I hadn't thought about using Instagram.
