I have Been Trying to call both helplines all morning but keep being hung up on before I even get answered and told they are too busy to answer. !

My daughters father is repeating verbally abusive to me at exchanges when he drops off our dad. It climaxed last night with him screaming obscenities at me from across the street . I said nothing and ran away with my dad both of us crying

My dd was distressed all night and I had a panic attack

I want to suspend all contact currently EOW but I don't know where I legally stand or where to go to advice with how to handle this

Can anyone help me please ?

Note : I divorced him 6 years ago because he was verbally abusive . My dd is 8

Hi are you phoning the national number or the local one to you? The national number is massively busy especially during the day and it can be hard to get through. Your local one might be able to help you though and you have more chance of getting through. If you don’t know the number google your local area and Women’s aid number and find it that way.

FWIW I think you have every right to suspend contact with your child and her dad for now. Good luck.

If you don’t have a court order in place then you can suspend contact at any time and i think based on his verbal abuse you are more than justified to do this as it’s harmful for your DD.
What’s he like when it’s just him with dd? Does she enjoy her contact? If he’s ok with her then is there anyone else who can facilitate contact or could you look at a contact centre where you drop her off and he picks her up without you two having to see each other; it does cost money though and he should pay it as it’s behaviour causing it to be needed.
Keep on trying women’s aid as they’d be the most helpful.

Sadly he won't pay for anything .
He is verbally abusive to her on occasion too

One route which people don’t often think of is your NHS school nurse- the ones that aren’t based in schools but usually in a health centre. I’m pretty sure almost every school has one and they should have the number if you don’t, or google your area + school nurse team. They can do referrals etc and contact social care for you, and I’m sure would also support you withholding contact as verbal abuse is serious especially to a child

He is verbally abusive to her on occasion too

Can you contact local Citizen's Advice Bureau? Or local solicitor?
