To go in work ill?

This winter I've been ill so much with colds! I always have seemed to have one on the go! A few have been particularly bad which have needed sick days, but after I start to feel better I'm back in work.

A member of the executive team seems to have a proper problem with me being in work with colds and has said I should be off until I'm 100% better. Other people have been in with colds too so if we were all off evetirme someone had one, we would be seriously understaffed! It became such an issue for her that she brought it up at the main weekly meeting with other managers present but the discussion was postponed til next week. She's barking!

Depends if you get full sick pay?

Full pay - i'd take the time off
No pay/ssp - i'd be in as soon as i felt able

Where I work it is an unwritten rule that you do not come in if you have a cold. You work at home or are off sick. To be honest it helps as we are not all constantly catching each other’s infections

What does your line manager expect you to do? Do you have the option to work from home?

In an ideal world people would stay at home with their germs, but it's not always practical.

God it's so hard isn't it. My workplace is damned if you do damned if you dont. The minute anyone is off then they are badmouthed to bits and all hell breaks lose. If people send texts or emails with details of their illness, they're read out to the rest of the staff and made fun of. ( maybe that should be a whole other thread...)But turning up at deaths door and there's snide comments about passing your germs round. So I have no answer really....

I go in with a basic cold.
But I don't go around coughing on sneezing on people. I keep tissues, lozenges and antibac wipes with me. Some people are a bit phobic of this stuff!
I don't go in if I feel too unwell to work, which is different.

I think if you can work at home you should when you have a cold or cough
