To expect an answer to a job application

Even if it’s a no?

I applied for a job which I didn’t really expect to get an interview for as it’s a bit outside my experience but was obviously hopeful. Closing date was a week ago and interview next week so I expect they have called people for interview now, but AIBU to expect a one line email saying ‘thanks but you’ve not been successful?’

Professional job, can’t imagine it would have attracted thousands of applicants. Been a long time since I’ve applied for a job though, so not in tosuch with what’s normal.

There really ARE hundreds of applicants for the few jobs out there now so employers don't reply if it's a no.

Just the way it is now.

My health is not great but at one point last year I naively thought I may be up to returning to work and did hundreds of applications. Literally almost a 1000, 2 replies I got.

I have a degree and postgrad qual plus lots of experience.

Friends and family having the same experience all over the country.

Sorry, meant to say I was also under 2 career services at the time and they were telling me same - employers just don't have the time to reply especially if they're advertising more than one role at a time.

We don't send out answers to all application - you'd be surprised how many applicants we get!

I think it depends if you have applied directly to the organisation as in this case it's easier to do a blanket no email. We recruit through third part sites (think indeed etc) and so emailing all candidates for an average role would be too time consuming to bother!

I just get used to it.

Most applications are electronic and an automated message is sent back within minutes acknowledging my application.

More often than not, the acknowledgement now has a line in it which states something along the lines of,

"The closing date for this vacancy is XXXXXX. If you do not hear back from us within 1/2/3 weeks of the closing date, you may consider yourself unsuccessful on this occasion."

There is an employer here in the West Midlands that do type rejection letters on headed notepaper, but they are an exception, not the rule.

Years ago yes but not now. I think it's poor show and bad manners. Its never been easier to contact, how hard is it to email or text someone. A generic thank you for your interest but ........,'. Its the same here in Sweden as well.
