Job application fuck-up

AIBU to just have some time to vent at my own stupidity???

Argh.

Just sent off my cover letter and CV for a job application.

I thought I'd proofread everything before sending it off, but clearly not - I've just clicked on the cover letter file to open it, and I've left the addressee line of the letter as 'Dear XXX XXXX' BlushBlushBlush.

Just before sending off my completed cover letter and CV, I phoned up the company that I was applying to to check who to address the cover letter to.

But although I wrote the addressee's name on the email, I've just seen that I didn't write it on the original cover letter, which I attached to the email 🤦‍♀️😭

Fuck's sake. Have I just completely blown it??

Is the job in proofreading?

If not, I think you’ll be ok.

livefornaps · 16/01/2018 14:13

Just quickly send another email with the corrected letter.

AnakinCyberwalker · 16/01/2018 14:18

Do what livefornaps said...and amend "please ignore previous email" to the subject title too.

Good luck.

livefornaps · 16/01/2018 14:21

Yes! Then the rest of the application as before.

Do it now, instead of stressing and stewing - it will look better if it has been corrected quickly.

Then forget about it and give yourself a break. We're all human.

Thanks so much Frosty and livefornaps.

The job description doesn't directly mention proofreading Frosty, but it's for a communications role, so I think proofreading is an important aspect of it Blush.

I've gone for livefornaps's suggestion. I think hopefully it might show that even if I make a mistake in a professional capacity, I am prepared to rectify it quickly. Hopefully anyway Blush

I agree, email it again - everyone makes typos. People who own up to mistakes at work should be considered a good thing surely.
