Do you think parking this way is acceptable? (Picture included)

We live next to a ‘care home’, as in naughty adolescents. They’ve got a big Drive way that will fit 4 cars, 2 side by side. They also park on the pavement outside the home, either side as it’s a corner plot. They always park outside our house - which is a pain when having visitors but also when pulling out of our drive way, it’s hard to see on coming vehicles. We’ve never once said “please can you park around the corner”, we just put up with it. Anyway, today I came out to this. Is this just taking the biscuit or am I being precious? I was still able to get out of the driveway - just so you know.

My neighbours do this (and on the other side so it’s really hard to get out!)

I almost hit the car every time but they don’t seem to care!

minisoksmakehardwork · 15/01/2018 17:48

IMO that's taking the piss. But unless they are parking over the dropped kerb, there is probably little you can do, other than drop in a polite note to the home and see whether that changes things or not.

BikeRunSki · 15/01/2018 17:48

Very thoughtless

HoneyBadgerApparently · 15/01/2018 17:48

I can see it would be annoying, but if they left room for you to get out I probably wouldn't complain.

TroelsLovesSquinkies · 15/01/2018 17:51

Lean on the doorbell everytime and make them come an move. The only way to make them stop is to make it as annoying for them as it is for you. Then have a really good moan at them as they come out to moveabout them parking over the dropped curb making it difficult to get out.
You could also contact and complain to whoever owns the company, saying how irresposible the staff are parking over the dropped curb and so close it is unsafe to get out of your driveway.

AlleyKitty · 15/01/2018 17:53

Are they completely on the pavement? What about pushchairs, wheelchairs and mobility scooters.

ritarockstar · 15/01/2018 19:21

At least it’s not just me getting hot & bothered over nothing. Yes they were blocking the pavement so access was restricted for pedestrians. I wonder if a complaint to the council is in order...

Complain to the manager of the care home before the council- they may be able to deal with it swiftly, especially if you show them the pictures.

mumpoints · 18/01/2018 11:12

If you ask them to move each time, it may stop. I would have issues getting out of there in my vehicle!

Falmer · 18/01/2018 11:27

We would struggle to get out of there with our van. Yes, I agree to complaining, firstly to the Care Home, then council if necessary. Have to say, I don't like your term "naughty adolescents" for residents in a Care Home.

Aspatria · 18/01/2018 11:34

Yes, they are completely taking the piss.

There must be someone in charge of that place for you to have a nice word with?
Then yes, follow up with council. You have more weight when you complain a "business" or official set-up than when you complain against an individual.

mumpoints · 18/01/2018 11:39

And don't let them fob you off with a "we knew your car would fit". That is the access to your property, how did they know you weren't expecting a truck or van?

aabidah86 · 18/01/2018 11:40

This happens at my parents house as they live on a side road next to the high street, people were always parking over the dropped kerb which made it really difficult to manoeuvre (my dad also had one of those white lines painted across the drive, which he paid for, although people still did it!).

The local council have a website where you can upload a photograph of the car parking over the dropped kerb and a traffic warden would come round and ticket it. This is in London though, so not sure if other councils have this system.

Anyway, it soon put a stop to people parking like that! My dad is retired so has a LOT of time on his hands to report people. Blush

Falmer · 18/01/2018 11:53

I think you should change your title to remove naughty for the Care Home residents, it is offensive.
