WIBU to hide from MIL?

Last weekend, my MIL popped by unannounced to drop off our carpet cleaner that she had -helped herself to- borrowed.
I was sorting my bag out in the living room when she knocked on the front door. H2B opened the door and let her into the hallway. I was about the go and say hello when she started talking in hushed tones.
I thought it was a bit odd but just thought she was talking about plans for our upcoming wedding or something. I stayed in the living room sorting out my bag. DP then came into the living room and spoke to me. MIL then said "Oh, why are you hiding from me? Don't worry I'm not allowed to stay so won't be long...."
I then went out to speak to her... She made a condescending comment about me being "so funny". I said "I thought you were talking about something I couldn't hear. Why else would you come into my house and start whispering?"
MIL keeps making bitchy comments about me "earwigging" to her and her "boys" conversations.
Obviously, I'm now the bad guy. WIBU?

Sounds weird. Just laugh it off. When she does it next time, go and do a stage whisper in your husbands ear..."Tell me later"

No idea what your AIBU is. Do you mean WIBU to hide from her in the future? Why? Confused

All sounds confused and confusing.

I thought your response was really good. What did she reply?
Who says you're the bad guy, DH?
