How do you actually go it, I see lots of people do it and state they have but I can't figure it out.

Go to account, delete your username type in another and press save. Job done

Does it remain until you revert back or do you need to do it before you post everytime?

Once you change it, it stays at that until you alter it again

I don’t know why, but I now have the urge to begin each and every post with the phrase “name changed for this as potentially outing” regardless of the topic or whether I have actually name changed.

I've got no need to change it was just the fact I didn't know how to if I had a burning issue I must simply change.

Plus you got to throw a few classics in too such as penis beaker and span gran etc.
