to expect drivers to wave thanks when I stop to let them pass in other direction?

On the way to work this morning (a school at the end of a narrow road with lots of parked cars on it) I had to stop in a big space to let 4 cars come past in the other direction. Not 1 of them waved as they went past me.
Is it just me or is that really rude?

this is why i hate this topic.

brimfull · 26/04/2007 10:18

did you immediately think-"oh a aibu thread!!"

slowreader · 26/04/2007 10:19

It's rude, but it might have been me. Roads here can be awful. Sometimes I am clutching the steering wheel in such terror that I can't let go to wave.

Porcupine · 26/04/2007 10:20

did it really upset oyu?

It's really rude, but sadly common. Many people don't have the manners they were born with

Porcupine · 26/04/2007 10:24

i think they need to be garotted in public
how truamatising.

DebitheScot · 26/04/2007 10:27

It didn't really upset me but I was nearly late for work and would just like to see some manners. It the fact that all 4 of them didn't wave. When its only one I think well they might not have been paying attetion or were busy doing something else or whatever and that doesn't bother me too much.

I know there are bigger things to worry about in life but just felt like having a moan this morning. Surely thats allowed?

It's also rude to yawn on other peoples threads.

Don't post if it doesn't interest you.

Debit - this is a gripe of my dh's too, he hates inpolite drives who don't acknowledge.

oliveoil · 26/04/2007 10:33

dh flicks the finger at people who don't wave when he has let them past

not sure which is the most bad mannered tbh

hayes · 26/04/2007 10:33

people are bad for not being curteous her too

Oblomov · 26/04/2007 10:34

No , it really narks me aswell. And when pedestrians don't say thank you.

hayes · 26/04/2007 10:34

that sounds a bit bad

what I mean is that round our way drivers are not very courteous either

IdrisTheDragon · 26/04/2007 10:35

It annoys me when people don't wave thanks - it's not that hard to do *although I know there have been times when I haven't ).

kittyhas6 · 26/04/2007 10:36

If someone does something for you you should thank them , full stop.

contentiouscat · 26/04/2007 10:39

I think its common courtesy to at least smile if you cant wave. I just mutter to myself in a facetious voice "oh no problem - thanks a lot"

and N0 in the scheme of things its not important but I find people who have to talk about important things all the time quite dull.

LazyLineJobsworth · 26/04/2007 11:06

So it's rude to yawn but not rude to verbally mock or abuse? What a surprise!

powder28 · 26/04/2007 11:20

was it their right of way? I don't always thank people if it's my right of way.

I find it strange when people crossing the road thank me for stopping at a zebra crossing or if the lights are on red.

It's a nice gesture though

powder28 · 26/04/2007 11:21

Lol @ porcupine

staceym11 · 26/04/2007 11:22

powder i thank people for stopping at a zebra crossing! so many dont!
