To buy my own tools?

DH has no problem with me using his drill/screwdriver/saw/etc, but I can never find them. He is incredibly disorganised has a storage system that I do not understand (mainly along the lines of "I'll just put this here" from what I can tell).

It seems wasteful to have two sets of basic tool items, but I have visions of drill bits all lined up in size order, little drawers of screws....

Perhaps the larger issue at play here is the double standard, because he would not be allowed access to my tools AT ALL.

My Mum and Dad had separate tools. I GUARANTEE the novelty of keeping things organised will wear off.

A man's toolbox and/or DIY shed is a truly wond'rous thing. Its organisation can only be understood by He Has The Key.

IrkThePurist · 11/01/2018 13:56

Ha! Thats what I did and guess who uses all my 'crappy girl tools' because they cant find theirs.

Frouby · 11/01/2018 13:57

My dp is a builder. All manner of kit and equipment.

But I still have my own tools which he is NOT ALLOWED TO TOUCH WITHOUT PERMISSION because he doesn't put them back or he takes it to work instead of buying one then I can't put a bastarding photo frame up because he has my hammer.

Buy your own. Hide them. Don't let him near them.

Helvitica as long as things stay where I put them, it shouldn't be a problem, right?! (slight desperate tone)

Irk and Frouby this is my greatest fear, although DH isn't a builder.

I have my own tools and powertools, got 2 toolboxes for them and everything. Grin

Much prefer it that way, hated having to chase down his stuff when I needed it.

Idontdowindows · 11/01/2018 14:12

Another one with a private tool collection.

I don't want to go looking for stuff when I need it, so I have my own and keep it separate.

MaxPepsi · 11/01/2018 14:17

I don't have my own tools e.g. drill and hammer as there quite frankly to bloody many of them already.

But I do have my own set of gardening tools. DH is not supposed to use them but he does. He broke my favourite trowel. That was an expensive and painful shopping trip for him!!

BarbaraofSevillle · 11/01/2018 14:23

YANBU I have my own tools. I got them from Ikea (very cheap, excellent quality and come in nice cases) and they live in the kitchen cupboard and DP is not allowed to touch them.

So I don't need to go into the garage if I need a hammer or a screwdriver, to be faced with a million such items thrown on the bench in a disorganised pile (he inherited his Dad and Grandad's tools so we have about a hundred year's worth of tools that belonged to practical men who worked at the foundry and took everything they could carry when it closed down).

ZigZagIntoTheBlue · 11/01/2018 14:25

I have my own as dh is crap at diy happy for me to get on with it. In fact I got a hammer drill for my Christmas present and he isn't allowed to touch it without supervision and express permission Wink

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 11/01/2018 14:25

YANBU - I have my own tools and my own shed!

athingthateveryoneneeds · 11/01/2018 14:28

So should I start with IKEA tools then? I don't do much DIY.

If all you want is a hammer, screwdriver, adjustable wrench or pliers once in a while this is what I have.

They also have a little electric screwdriver and some other bits and pieces like a tape measure and spirit level:

YANBU to have your own tools (remember to mark them as such). I even have my own personal white spirit and WD40
